The Department of Probation seeks to appoint a Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, who under the direction of the General Counsel, with wide latitude for the exercise of independent action and decision-making, will develop and manage all matters including, the dissemination of public information, as they relate to the agency's intergovernmental affairs, external relations and its legislative agenda. This position is an integral part of the DOP Executive Team and plays a central role in advancing public safety by coordinating public information activities in support of the development and advocacy of the agency's city, state and federal legislative agenda and coordinating policy development on related legislative issues.
The chosen candidate will have demonstrated success influencing decision-makers on legislative and policy issues, preferably in New York City and New York State; developing relationships with elected officials and key government and community leaders; and building coalitions to achieve desired results. Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Qualifications: Admission to the New York State Bar; and four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work. Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
