Office: Dean of Students Reports to: Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Work Period: 12 month Hours: Full-time Overtime: Exempt Job Grade: 10 General Summary: Provides vision, strategic leadership, and development for student housing and a holistic residence life program, a living and learning environment that supports the intellectual, personal and professional growth of students within the guidelines of federal, state, and local laws and office, division and college policies and procedures. Reports to the vice president for student affairs and dean of students and works directly with students, faculty and staff. Essential Job Functions:
Provides vision, strategic leadership, and direction for a comprehensive housing and residence life program housing approximately 800 students in six residence halls, three theme houses, and an apartment complex including placement, roommate agreements and conflict resolution, facilities reporting, student conduct, marketing and communication with parents and families as appropriate. Implements selection, professional development, supervision and evaluation of the housing and residence life staff which includes professional staff members, graduate assistants, resident assistants and student office assistants. Develops and oversees a holistic residence life living and learning program including long-range planning that utilizes best practices in student development and research to create engaging, learning environments including partnering with the SUMMIT integration committee to develop a co-curricular experience for first year students via living and learning communities. Ensures the security and safety of students; responsible for crisis and risk management, responds to campus and student emergencies as needed and serves as a resource in the on-call duty rotation including reporting and documentation in case management software. Serves as primary contact and liaison with campus facilities to ensure the effective management and maintenance of all facilities within the residence life and campus housing inventory Leads the review of Off Campus Housing requests and serves on other campus wide committees as requested Oversees office operating budget and negotiates residential contracts with vendors including but not limited to residence hall policies, operational and maintenance schedules, keys and room condition reports, room assignments and changes; oversees the mediation of roommate conflicts. Assists the vice president of student affairs and dean of students in situations related to student life as a senior leader in the division. REQUIREMENTSEducation: Master's degree is required with a focus in counseling, higher education administration or student personnel preferred. Experience Five years of professional experience in higher education following graduate school is required; seven years of progressive of experience in residence life preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Possess strong knowledge of residential life philosophy and student development theory including student conduct. Experience with restorative principles and Maxient Case Management tool preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership and exceptional supervisory skills. Director supervisory experience of professional staff required.
- Possess interpersonal/human relation skills; commitment to collaboration; and conflict resolution skills.
- Possess strong detail management skills; organizational/planning skills; and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Knowledge of current educational trends, politics of thought, state, federal and other laws, policies and protocols that impact housing and residential life areas.
- Exceptional listening skills and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and high acuity for emotional intelligence
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends. Shared responsibilities for duty rotation over college closures and holidays.
- Proficiency in digital tools like Microsoft office products: Word, and Excel and electronic mail, Google applications. Social media skills preferred
- Proficiency in Spanish preferred

- Irregular and on-call hours are required
- Due to the nature of the position and on-call responsibilities the director of residence life is required to live in college housing.
Physical Demands Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking and occasional moving of heavy objects.
