Job Responsibilities

• Supervises the general office, human resources, and administrative responsibilities of Engineering Support. Ensures responsiveness to divisions across the department, other agencies, and the public through personal contact, telephone, email, and letters. Drafts and prepares human resource paperwork promptly. Manages manpower requirements within the allotted headroom.
• Provides guidance on design policies and procedures. Issues technical memoranda, standards, manuals, engineering directives, and departmental directives to ensure designs comply with state and federal regulations and industry standards. Signs and seals SCDOT Standard Drawings.
• Offers design resources (in-house or on-call ) to assist districts with complex design issues on district-led initiatives. Provides engineering recommendations and supporting documents for timely project completion.
• Supports the legal department by providing engineering expertise and testimony in court cases related to design issues. Responds promptly to legal inquiries.
• Develops and maintains the Engineering Support budget, ensuring proper funding and compliance with procurement policies. Reviews and approves design exceptions and variances for new and reconstruction projects.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering and ten (10) years of engineering experience.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer by the South Carolina State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Physical and Other Requirements

Position involves extended periods of sitting or standing, occasional travel, and physical activities such as bending, reaching, climbing, and working outdoors. May require working outside normal hours or responding to emergencies.
