What You'll Do
- Lead a high-performing engineering team, growing from ~18 to 35–50 engineers
- Set and refine engineering processes, team structure, and technical culture
- Guide architectural decisions and system design, particularly for internal tools and platforms
- Remain ~10% hands-on through code reviews or direct contributions (primarily in Python)
- Support cross-functional collaboration with product, scientific, and compliance teams
- Ensure technical excellence in a high-compliance environment (e.g., healthcare or regulatory standards)
Who You Are
Must-Have Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering
- Previous leadership experience at the Director level or above
- Strong development background in Python
- Experience scaling engineering teams through periods of growth
- Strong process-building and organizational skills in fast-paced environments
- Comfortable operating in regulated or highly structured environments
Nice-to-Have Experience
- Background in bioinformatics, genetic testing, or healthcare technology
- Prior work in compliance-heavy environments (e.g., CAP, CLIA, FDA)
- Exposure to front-end engineering or full-stack team dynamics
- Hands-on coding contributions alongside team leadership
- Experience at both startups and larger companies, particularly during transition/growth phases
