Director of Engineering - OpenLoop Health : Job Details

Director of Engineering About the RoleOpenLoop is looking for a strategic and hands-on Director of Engineering to join our team remotely in the San Francisco Bay area. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the development of our technology roadmap, leading high-performing engineering teams, and integrating AI-powered solutions into our digital health platform.Please note: The ideal location for this talent will need to be in / near the San Francisco Bay area. Please be aware of this requirement if you apply.If you reside outside of San Francisco, we cannot guarantee relocation assistance for this position.What You'll Do: Provide strategic leadership and technical oversight across engineering functions (platform, infrastructure, product development, AI/ML, DevOps).Drive the development and implementation of scalable, secure, and compliant healthcare software solutions.Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, Clinical, and Data teams to define and execute the technical vision.Build and scale AI-driven features that enhance clinical workflows, patient engagement, and operational efficiency.Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.Lead hiring, mentoring, and development of engineering talent, promoting diversity and inclusion.Ensure adherence to security, privacy, and healthcare compliance standards (HIPAA, SOC 2, etc.).Manage vendor relationships and evaluate build vs. buy decisions for critical technologies.Other duties as assigned.Who You Are Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.8-10+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ in engineering leadership roles.Proven success leading and scaling engineering teams in high-growth startups or tech-forward healthcare environments.Hands-on experience implementing AI/ML solutions, especially in healthcare or enterprise software.Deep understanding of cloud-based architecture (e.g., AWS, GCP), modern frameworks, and API design.Experience with distributed systems, serverless technologies, and event-driven architectures.Experience with healthcare interoperability standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR) is a plus.Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical strategy into business outcomes.Passionate about improving healthcare delivery through technology.Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment, often with competing priorities.Salary range provided (base + annual bonus) is aligned with this talent residing in the San Francisco, CA area.Remote Salary Range: $220,000 — $255,000 USDOpenLoop was co-founded by CEO Dr. Jon Lensing and COO Christian Williams, with the vision to bring healing anywhere.
