The Manhattan Clubhouse overlooks Central Park and provides members with an elegant yet performance-driven setting. The New York Athletic Club is seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Chief Engineer to lead all engineering and maintenance operations at its landmark Manhattan location. This individual will be responsible for the upkeep, functionality, and regulatory compliance of the club's mechanical systems, building infrastructure, and critical athletic, food and beverage, and guest room facilities. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional technical knowledge, leadership abilities, and a commitment to delivering an outstanding environment for members, athletes, and guests. Requirements Key Responsibilities: • Oversee day-to-day operations of engineering and maintenance teams, ensuring the safe and efficient functioning of all building systems. • Maintain all HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, life safety, and water systems across athletic, hospitality, and administrative areas. • Ensure the reliable operation of specialized facilities, including swimming pools, spout rooms, steam rooms, saunas, and cold plunges. • Manage preventive maintenance programs for all major systems and equipment, minimizing downtime and extending asset life. • Lead a team of union maintenance personnel; manage schedules, training, and performance. • Respond promptly to service requests and emergencies, ensuring minimal disruption to club operations. • Maintain a vision and direction for the department and facility improvements, encouraging continued growth of associates and improvements of systems and facility. • Solicit the services, coordinate and supervise contractors and outside vendors for repairs, capital improvements, and compliance-related work. • Focus the Engineering Department on their role in contributing to member satisfaction • Ensure that the Preventative Maintenance program is implemented and administered according to NYAC standards. • Maintain accurate documentation, including equipment logs, inspection reports, permits, and compliance records. • Collaborate closely with other departments (Housekeeping, IT, Front Desk, Food & Beverage, Athletics, Security) to support seamless club operations. • Prepare and manage the engineering budget, control inventory, and contribute to long-term capital planning. • Develop and recommend capital improvement projects for equipment & systems to ensure uninterrupted, efficient, and reliable services to the facility. • Prepare and manage Utilities Budget, track usage, and ensure all equipment is operated in an efficient and energy conservation manner, while ensuring quality service. • Ensure adherence to all applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards, including DOB, FDNY, DEP, OSHA, and DOH guidelines. Qualifications: • Minimum 10+ years of engineering and maintenance experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a luxury hospitality, athletic, or club environment. • Strong working knowledge of NYC building systems, codes, and permit processes. • Experience with aquatic systems (pools, spas) maintenance preferred. • Proven ability to manage unionized teams within a structured organizational framework. • FDNY Certificates of Fitness required or obtainable (e.g., S-12, S-13, P-98, S94). • Technical certifications in HVAC, refrigeration, boilers, plumbing, or electrical trades preferred. • Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and CMMS software. • BS/BA in facility management, engineering, business administration or relevant field • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. • Must be available for 24/7 emergency response and on-call rotation.
