Base pay range

$170,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing the properties engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring the safety, functionality, and efficiency of all building systems. This role involves managing a team of engineers and maintenance staff, implementing preventative maintenance programs, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and optimizing energy efficiency. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise in hospitality facility management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

• Oversee the maintenance and repair of all hotel facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program to extend the life of equipment and reduce downtime.
• Ensure the hotel is compliant with all local, state, and federal safety regulations and building codes.
• Monitor and optimize energy consumption to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Implement sustainable practices in line with corporate or industry standards.
• Manage, train, and mentor the engineering and maintenance team to ensure high performance.
• Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing professional development opportunities.
• Prepare and manage the engineering department's budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
• Oversee vendor negotiations and contracts for maintenance services and equipment purchases.
• Track expenses and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure compliance with OSHA, fire codes, and other regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with local authorities for safety drills and inspections.
• Work with architects, contractors, and designers to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Evaluate the need for upgrades to enhance guest experience and operational efficiency.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPIERENCE AND SKILLS

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field (preferred).
• 10+ years of engineering or maintenance management experience in the hospitality industry.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems in a hotel environment.
• Experience with budget management, vendor relations, and capital project planning.
• Familiarity with OSHA, fire safety codes, ADA compliance, and other regulatory standards.
• Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• High proficiency in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call for emergencies.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:

• Hotel or resort setting with both office and hands-on technical responsibilities.
• May require working in outdoor environments and in tight spaces for maintenance tasks.
• Requires lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, and operating power tools as needed.
