Job Title: Director of Emergency Services Job Summary: As the Director of the Emergency Services Department, you will be responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, managing personnel, and overseeing resource allocation and management controls. Your role will involve problem identification and solution implementation, active participation in committees, advancement of the patient experience agenda, coaching and development of subordinates, adherence to HR policies, effective communication, building relationships, enforcing standards of care, and overseeing program development and evaluation. You will also monitor compliance with regulations and policies, maintain operational excellence, support recruitment efforts, and perform other assigned duties. Responsibilities:
  • Accurately identify and address real/potential problems in the service, implementing effective solutions and maintaining communication.
  • Actively participate in service, departmental, and hospital-wide committees, providing ongoing communication to relevant parties.
  • Promote the patient experience agenda in the Emergency Department.
  • Coach and provide feedback to immediate subordinates, facilitating their individual development plans and documenting their job performance.
  • Adhere to all Human Resource policies.
  • Effectively communicate departmental, organization, and industry information to staff.
  • Facilitate evidence-based employee engagement practices.
  • Build strong relationships and networks to achieve organizational and department goals.
  • Participate in employee and patient rounding, identify potential future leaders, and provide mentorship.
  • Enforce standards of emergency department care and develop processes to ensure consistent compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate an ongoing emergency services program aligned with the Hospital mission.
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policies related to patient services, environmental safety, and personnel safety.
  • Oversee a Performance Improvement (PI) program that monitors and evaluates critical aspects of care.
  • Ensure the department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Follow the Hospital Exposure Control Plans for Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
  • Support the recruitment process to secure staffing talent.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in emergency services leadership in an acute care setting required.
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role preferred, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Current registered professional nurse license in the state of practice, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Additional Information:
  • Compensation: Minimum: $111,612 | Mid: $139,526 | Maximum: $167,419
  • Bonus eligibility: 15-22.5%
  • $10,000 relocation assistance possible, with potential sign-on bonus
  • 245 beds, level 3 trauma center
  • 28 ER beds + 10 fast track spaces
  • Volume: Approximately 110 patients on weekdays; lower volume on weekends
  • Acuity level: 6-8 patients per day, ESI 4-5 per day
  • 32% admission rate
  • No oversight of FSEDs (Free-Standing Emergency Departments)
  • Director reports to Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)
  • One manager position available, with a request for a night manager
  • Full-Time Equivalents (FTEs): 50-60
