Overview

OverviewOverviewThe mission of the Director of Corporate Accounting will be to oversee and handle all aspects of the corporate accounting function for WB. This role will be a critical business component for WB's accounting and finance leadership team. This person will be responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of the corporate accounting team. They will also interact heavily with the regional accounting leadership to ensure accurate and consistent information is received and that each region operates its accounting/financial operations in compliance with corporate oversite and direction.Reporting RelationshipThe Director of Corporate Accounting will report directly to the Chief Accounting Officer (“CAO”). The role will also interact closely with company CFO and Director of FP&A and will support other executive team members as needed. Reporting to this role will be an overall team of 5-6 individuals. Finally, this role will represent the company to outside parties such as auditors, investors, vendors, professional associations, and other key stakeholders.ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities

• Responsible for management and direction of the month-end close process while also managing the monthly closing of the team to meet deadlines set forth by the Company.
• Oversee the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports, which includes review and consolidation of regional reporting received from regional accounting leadership. Work with the regional accounting leadership to gather information—must be willing to ask questions and challenge answers.
• This role will need to provide insightful and occasionally actionable information for the CFO, CAO and Director of FP&A.
• Provide key information to FP&A team with regards to their forecasting and related analytical reporting.
• Manage preparation of certain ad hoc accounting and financial project work.
• Evaluate and improve processes in the corporate accounting department as needed.
• Help report and occasionally manage the overall company performance to budget to CFO, CAO and Director of FP&A, helping ensure maximum profitability for the overall business.
• Oversee and manage corporate annual audit and tax reporting and compliance activities.
• Assist with and perhaps oversee various company initiatives that corporate accounting will have influence over. This includes system upgrades and implementations as needed.
• Assist with properly functioning internal control guidelines, policies and procedures for accounting, cash, expense reporting, general administration, and other activities.
• Select, orient, train, assign, schedule, coach and counsel employees of the team. This includes communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

TravelThis position will require a minimal amount of business travel, no more than once per quarterQualificationsEducation

• Minimum of Bachelor of Accounting degree is required.
• CPA license is a requirement.
• Master's in Accounting or MBA would be a plus, but not required.

Professional Qualifications

• Prefer 10 years of practical, hands-on experience in accounting (including 5+ years of accounting leadership).
• Real estate industry experience (optimally property management real estate experience) would be preferred.
• Good understanding and interpreter of GAAP, accounting theories, and internal controls with an ability to implement innovatively.
• Past public accounting experience would be a plus.
• Knowledge and exposure to partnership taxation would be viewed positively.
• Demonstrated management skills and an ability to communicate (both verbally and in writing), simply, clearly and concisely on complex accounting/financial issues.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite is critical and Yardi management software is preferred. Experience with systems and software implementations is a plus.
• Ability to strategize and solve problems. Be a sounding board for the CFO, CAO and Director of FP&A.
• Hands-on orientation and sense of ownership over assigned areas of responsibility.
• Track record of building an integrated team and developing a culture of execution and people orientation. This includes experience in attracting, hiring, training and leading a well-functioning and successful accounting team.
• Ability to act and operate independently with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Capability to work cooperatively and collaboratively across all departments and regions to achieve objectives. Build a culture of cooperation and teamwork to accomplish tasks.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to train others with these skills.
