Director of Construction
A growing commercial subcontractor in the food service construction space is seeking a Director of Construction to lead and support its Project Management team. This role is pivotal in ensuring seamless execution of construction projects and providing strategic oversight from start to finish.
Unlike standard kitchen installation companies, this organization operates as a general subcontractor for food service-related builds, managing the coordination of all trades involved—including plumbing, electrical, framing, and HVAC.
The ideal candidate will bring at least five years of leadership experience in a commercial general contracting environment, with a proven track record of delivering complex construction projects from concept through completion. This understanding is vital, as the company frequently partners with general contractors under formal construction contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and operational support to the Project Management team
- Ensure clear coordination across all subcontracted trades (plumbers, electricians, HVAC techs, framers, etc.) to maintain project momentum
- Manage operational budgets and define best practices for execution, emphasizing timely, profitable, and quality project delivery
- Identify and resolve potential issues proactively—before they impact schedule, budget, or client satisfaction
- Drive team performance and accountability across all active projects
- Hire, train, and develop project managers in alignment with company growth
- Equip PMs with tools, processes, and structure needed to stay ahead of project demands
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience with a commercial general contractor, leading full-scale construction projects
- Demonstrated success managing complex projects and coordinating subcontractors across multiple disciplines
- Strong background in process optimization, team development, and operational strategy
- Proven ability to anticipate risks and implement effective mitigation strategies
- Proficiency in Procore, Outlook, AutoQuotes, and construction drawing review
