Role Overview: The Director of Compliance establishes and oversees all aspects of Suffolk Credit Union's Risk Management, Compliance, and Security programs, ensuring alignment with an enterprise-wide approach to risk. This role is responsible for developing strategic initiatives, maintaining regulatory compliance, and safeguarding both information and physical assets. The Director collaborates across departments to embed a strong culture of risk awareness and ensure organizational resilience. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees daily and strategic operations in compliance, vendor management, and both information and facilities security.
  • Leads employees through effective coaching, organizing, performance evaluation, recognition, hiring, and disciplinary actions in collaboration with People Operations.
  • Contributes to setting and communicating the credit union's strategic goals with a focus on risk mitigation.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive compliance program ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Manages facility and information security programs, including safety training and regulatory compliance (OSHA, ADA).
  • Investigates breaches in physical and information security and coordinates with law enforcement when needed.
  • Acts as a liaison with law enforcement, compliance examiners, internal auditors, and legal counsel.
  • Ensures timely response and resolution to internal audits, examiner findings, DORs, and supplementary facts.
  • Addresses serious member concerns and ensures all member-facing disclosures and advertisements meet compliance standards.
  • Prepares and presents compliance reports for senior leadership and the Board; disseminates law and regulation changes across departments.
  • Actively participates in credit union committees, particularly those focused on risk management.
  • Manages vendor due diligence processes, ensures accurate HMDA reporting, and handles budget forecasting for the compliance department.
Essential Qualifications: Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Economics, or related field. Eight (8)+ years of compliance experience in a financial institution required, three (3) years of which must have been in a progressive managerial capacity. Compliance Officer Certification (CUCO), NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer (NCCO), Certified Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE), required or to be obtained within 2 years of hire.
  • Proficient in risk analysis techniques and knowledgeable about regulatory environments in the financial industry.
  • Strong understanding of financial industry operations and credit union products, services, and regulations.
  • Skilled in facility and information security practices.
  • Knowledgeable in strategic planning methodologies and organizational policies.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including data analysis using spreadsheet software.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience supervising professional-level staff.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of managing complex deadlines, maintaining confidentiality, and working independently.
