Summary

Birch Bay Retirement Village, Mount Desert Island's premier retirement community, is seeking a compassionate and experienced Director of Health Services to lead and oversee all health-related services for our residents and clients. Nestled on the shores of Frenchman Bay and bordering Acadia National Park, Birch Bay offers a serene and vibrant setting for seniors to thrive in Independent Living, Assisted Living, Residential Care, Memory Care, and Adult Day Programs.

As a key member of our leadership team, the Director of Health Services will design, implement, and manage a comprehensive program of care that aligns with our Integrated Care Philosophy and organizational values: Compassion, Teamwork, Improvement, Respect, Community, and Integrity. This role is ideal for a licensed RN with a strong background in geriatrics, supervisory experience, and a passion for person-centered care.

In addition to clinical leadership, the Director of Health Services will serve as an Admissions Partner, working closely with the Marketing Director to support prospective residents and their families through the admissions process. This includes participating in tours, assessments, and care planning to ensure a smooth and welcoming transition into the Birch Bay community.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Oversight: Develop and direct a comprehensive health services program that meets the needs of all residents.
  • Staffing: Ensure staffing levels to meet the needs of our residents, manage scheduling and budgeting, and provide ongoing staff education and performance evaluations.
  • Resource Management: Contribute to the development and management of capital and operational budgets.
  • Resident & Family Relations: Foster strong relationships with residents and their families, promoting a secure and supportive environment.
  • Resident Monitoring: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of each resident's health status and collaborate with staff to promote independence and safety.
  • Licensure Compliance: Ensure all health services are fully licensed and compliant with regulatory standards.
  • Person-Centered Care: Build meaningful relationships with residents, honoring their preferences, values, and choices in all aspects of care.
  • Admissions Partnership: Collaborate with the Marketing Director to support the admissions process, including conducting clinical assessments, participating in tours and family meetings, and ensuring a smooth transition for new residents.
Qualifications

Education & Licensure:

  • Current Maine RN License (required).
  • BS/BA in Nursing or a related field (required).
  • BLS certification within 120 days of hire.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in geriatrics.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with memory care best practices.

Skills & Requirements:

  • Strong communication skills in English (additional languages a plus).
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and perform under pressure.
  • Basic computer proficiency preferred.
  • Physical ability to lift 25–55 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in environments with potential exposure to bodily fluids and high-stress situations.
