USY empowers teens to build relationships that elevate, leadership skills that make an impact and a sense of belonging to the Jewish People and Israel, along with a commitment to inspired Jewish living through meaningful and fun experiences rooted in Conservative Judaism's approach to experiential learning, spiritual expression and social responsibility.

Through year-round programming, immersive experiences, domestic and international opportunities and connections, USY inspires teens to share a deep sense of pride and love for their Jewish identity.

The Department of USY oversees all USY programming, communications, and strategy. The department manages all aspects of the planning and preparation of USY events that occur throughout the year, across North America. Members of the department are responsible for facilitating engagement with Jewish youth at regional, national, and virtual levels.

The Director of Chapter Outreach and Initiatives is critical to USY's engagement initiative and is charged with shaping and fostering lifelong relationships between USY, synagogues and chapters. The Director leads “grassroots” outreach to drive and strengthen teen engagement, expand USY's footprint and promote sustainability of Conservative Judaism. By striving to understand the needs of teens and communities, the Director customizes strategies and initiatives to foster a sense of community, shared purpose, inclusion and pride in Jewish identity.

Key Responsibilities:

Supporting Synagogues and Chapters

• Create a chapter standard of excellence model.
• Provide leadership and facilitate a sense of community by promoting communication and collaboration among USY chapters.
• Build strong relationships with USY chapter leaders and advisors by providing support and resources to address decreasing teen participation in the program and community.
• Design and oversee initiatives that connect chapters while addressing the interests, concerns and needs of teens; and promoting alignment to USY's mission.
• Create resource tool-kits and methods for synagogue and chapter use in creating inclusive engagement opportunities for vulnerable teens, effective programming, successful recruitment processes, leadership development, fundraising skills and other teen engagement opportunities.
• Oversee and optimize the chapter grant program.
• Conduct regular needs assessments to align programming with teen interests; evaluate program effectiveness, measure impact and refine as necessary to optimize program impact.

Expanding Our Reach

• Research and analyze our current chapter base and potential throughout North
• America.
• Develop and implement strategies to expand USY's chapter base; identify and extend reach to new areas.
• Support congregations seeking to implement a chapter.
• Collaborate with and support chapter efforts to partner with organizations and expand their engagement.

Performance Management and Evaluation

• Engage, motivate and manage volunteers and other stakeholders through effective coaching and mentoring.
• Frame a positive and supportive work environment with USCJ's shared staff values of: collaboration, dedication to the mission, generosity of spirit, innovation and adaptability, integrity, solution-oriented and striving for excellence; demonstrates and is accountable for “living the values” in daily work relationships and work product/outcomes.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Jewish education or related field preferred
• 5+ years of relevant experience
• Proven experience in developing and managing successful programs for youth
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• Demonstrated project management skills
• Strong relationship building and customer service skills
• Familiarity with the religious practices of Conservative Judaism
• Proficient in Google Suite
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Passion for USY's mission and commitment to empowering Jewish teens
• Previous experience working with volunteers is a plus

Schedule:

Monday through Friday; requires attendance at evening meetings and weekend programs and conventions

Travel:

Requires travel for site visits, programs and conventions
