The Director of Campus Ministry is appointed by the President and reports directly to the Principal. The Director develops and implements spiritual programs and religious/service activities to enhance the Roman Catholic character of our forward-thinking, Roman Catholic, college preparatory school and develops the abilities of all students to lead and serve society and the Church.The Director works in cooperation and collaboration with the Chaplain, Theology Department, students, and staff to enhance the spiritual and prayer life of the school.Responsibilities Include
- Intellectually and spiritually witness to the life of Christian Discipleship as one of fulfillment and joy.
- Planning and implementing service opportunities for the materially poor:
- Establish method of accountability for students doing service (x2VOL)
- Develop and publish clear guidelines stipulating what does and does not consist of true service
- Develop a means of distinguishing students who commit to radical excellence in our service opportunities.
- Providing opportunities for all students to serve in leadership roles in ministry to the community.
- Provide for school liturgies on appropriate feasts and school celebrations:
- Coordinate student volunteers for liturgical responsibilities
- Readers
- Gift bearers
- Eucharistic Ministers (where applicable and possible)
- Prepare any needed liturgical resources/prayer aids
- Coordinate with Music Teacher regarding songs
- Coordinate student's choice of readings for special masses
- Consider ways to develop new liturgical opportunities for specific classes.
- Provide for sacramental celebrations in conjunction with the local church community:
- Collaborate with the Chaplain to ensure a large-scale offering of the Sacrament of Reconciliation at appropriate times (traditionally Lent and Advent).
- Maintain a working relationship with the local Church community:
- Encourage students to fuller participation in their parish community.
- Encourage liturgical participation in the local church
- Advertise any local service opportunities you are aware of; encourage the students to reach out and seek those opportunities on their own.
- Collaborate with Chaplain to provide prayer services for the school community when liturgy is not ideal:
- Mark significant local, national, and international events which call for a prayerful response (easily done through offering of daily morning prayer; we can add petitions such as sports, theater, major celebrations, national and international events).
- Collaborate with the Theology Department to meet the needs of the students:
- Serve as a resource person to the Theology Department.
- Develop/restructure the retreat program for the Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors.
- Collaborate with the Chaplain to offer a retreat day for the Faculty/Staff.
- Collaborate with the Freshmen Counselor to coordinate a student team to engage the freshmen during their transition time here.
- Assist administratively:
- Organize the schedule for Campus Ministry Activity.
- Publicize activities for the Faculty and Staff.
- Prepare a budget with the Chaplain for the Campus Ministry Office.
- Coordinate various service projects:
- Hold regular meetings for students participating in the various aspects of campus ministry: liturgies, service, retreats, prayer services
- Planning and chaperoning Pilgrimage opportunities (certain local as well as distance events).
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Theology or Religious Studies
- Experience in Campus Ministry is preferred
- Practicing Catholic
