Overview

Director of Learning and Development (L&D) role at Summit Therapeutics, Inc. The position reports to the VP of HR and leads training and talent development across the organization in a dynamic biotech environment.

Summit has begun its clinical development of ivonescimab in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), with three active Phase III trials: HARMONi, HARMONi-3, and HARMONi-7.

Ivonescimab is investigational and not approved in Summit's license territories; it has approvals/designations elsewhere as described in the original posting.

Role And Responsibilities
  • Design and execute a comprehensive, scalable learning and development strategy aligned with organizational goals and regulatory requirements within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Lead the evaluation and adoption of innovative learning technologies, platforms, and methodologies, including digital, instructor-led, blended, and microlearning formats.
  • Oversee and continuously improve the new hire onboarding and integration experience to ensure early engagement, role clarity, and cultural alignment.
  • Collaborate with HR Business Partners, hiring managers, and functional leads to tailor onboarding programs to functional needs while maintaining consistency and compliance.
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning and professional development across the organization.
  • Manage the Summit University SharePoint platform, creating and updating learning modules and resources in collaboration with functional teams.
  • Develop clear, competency-based career ladders for each functional area and provide growth pathways for employees.
  • Analyze HR metrics to identify learning needs and prioritize training initiatives; develop KPIs to measure learning impact and ROI, reporting to executive leadership.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate training programs across leadership development, compliance, technical, soft skills, and cross-functional capabilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure training meets business and regulatory needs.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends in professional education.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Experience, Education And Specialized Knowledge And Skills
  • Master's degree in Adult Education, Organizational Psychology, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in learning and development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences sector required.
  • Proven experience using HR data and metrics to inform L&D strategy and drive measurable outcomes.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and eLearning platforms (course delivery, user management, tracking and reporting, certification and compliance, content management, accessibility and integration).
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities; excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

An analytical mindset with experience using data to guide decisions and demonstrate impact.

Compensation: The pay range for this role is $200,000-$220,000 annually. Actual compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and location. The total compensation package may include bonus, stock, benefits and/or other variable compensation.
