Job Description :

The purpose of this position is to provide instruction and oversight of all Law Enforcement training, including Detention Officer Training, Correctional Officer Training, and Law Enforcement In-Service Training.Essential Duties

  • Responsible for the planning, developing, coordinating, and delivering Commission-mandated courses, professional development, and in-service training through the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and NC Sheriff's Education and Training Standards Commission.
  • Work collaboratively to promote relationships with affiliated law enforcement agencies, advisory boards, and community stakeholders to create and deliver training opportunities to meet industry needs.
  • Recruit, employ and supervise qualified instructors to ensure effective instruction in all classes, including adherence to any required Commission standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all governing agencies within the North Carolina Department of Justice.
  • Monitor and enforce program compliance with laws, rules and regulations related to safety in LE classes.
  • Make required class visits as outlined in the College's Accountability Plan.
  • Oversee all program operations: course outline preparation, contract preparation, registration, orientation, instruction, grading and evaluation of all courses in the area of responsibility.
  • Coordinate the ordering of books, materials, supplies and availability of facilities for courses.
  • Maintain all weapons and equipment.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities (selected or assigned) to enhance and apply knowledge/skills within the discipline to effectively utilize required course technology and College applications and maintain licensures (as applicable).
  • Utilize College technology for the completion of operational processes; this includes but is not limited to the College's learning management system, email and calendaring solution, document management systems, student information system, and employee portals.
  • Meet deadlines, including maintaining and submitting accurate class records, audit files, employee records/requests, and other assigned tasks.
  • In consultation with the Dean, manage program operating budget, and keep accurate records for an inventory of equipment.
  • Facilitate a positive, student-centered, and professional environment among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Adhere to College policies and procedures.
  • Participate in College meetings, events, and committees as appropriate or required.

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesResponsible for supervising part-time instructors.Minimum QualificationsMinimum of a high school diploma; five years working in the law enforcement field required; obtain and maintain NC Department of Public Safety (prisons) clearance; valid driver's license.Education and Experience:Associate's or bachelor's degree in related criminal justice or law enforcement field preferredLicenses and Certificates:General Instructor certification through the North Carolina Criminal Justice and Sheriff's Standards Commissions (NCCJTSC); School Director certification through NCCJTSC or willingness to obtain within six months of employment.Specialized Training: Firearms Instructor certification and other specialty certifications preferred; three years teaching experience, and one-year supervisory experience preferred.Physical Demands
  • Physical Requirements: Hear and see; stand extended periods of time; stoop, bend, squat, lift, reach overhead
  • Use and manipulate equipment according to industry standards.
  • Work hours may include day, evening, weekend responsibilities

Working ConditionsWork is performed in a typical office environment. Regular work week: Some evening work required.Health and Safety StandardsAll employees of Piedmont Community College who must enter an outside agency for the purpose of their work will be expected to adhere to the health and safety standards of that agency.
