Position Title: Director of Imperial County Programs

Company Description: NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a nonprofit organization that provides free education, support services, and advocacy to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by mental health conditions.

Primary Responsibilities/Function:

This position is responsible for coordinating the growth, sustainability, and accountability of the Department. The Department includes various programs in Imperial County, such as our Transition Age Youth Mental Health Project, Coordinated Family Supports, Hey! Café Clubhouse, CalAIM Housing Navigation Services, and our new Adult Re-Entry program.

The Director is responsible for participation and leadership within both the organization and department by designing, implementing and evaluating strategic plans, contract and budget compliance, all phases of personnel management, and program design-funding-implementation-evaluation. This position is based in Imperial County.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates the design, development, and coordination of projects. Provides leadership, direction, and sets the tone for the department. Leads meetings and committees.
  • Assures appropriate compliance, integrity, and quality of programs by completing budgetary reviews and reports, employee documentation, outcomes review and reports, and ensuring adequate progress towards goals/deliverables.
  • Oversees the recruitment of employees. Supervises, trains, and recognizes department staff and volunteers. Builds and maintains a positive work culture.
  • Collaborates with the executive team on overall strategic planning and openly communicates program, personnel, and contract status.
  • Participates as a member of the senior management team in the development and implementation of organization-wide policies and procedures to contribute to NAMI SD/IC's overall success.
  • Participates in the design, research, and writing of funding applications.
  • Participates in the community relations efforts of NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties, including the behavioral health, housing, education, and justice sectors.
  • Attends required training, provides/secures training for employees, and ensures timely completion of training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Accountability: Reports to the Managing Director for Programs.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 15 pounds, at times.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field preferred (Social Work, Psychology, Community) or clearly demonstrated equivalent work experience in the field. Master's preferred.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in a key leadership role, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Significant experience working with individuals living with mental health conditions, substance use, experiencing homelessness, and justice-impacted individuals.
  • In-depth knowledge of resources, services, and culture in Imperial County.
  • Lived experience as a mental health care advocate for self or family members is strongly preferred.
  • A strong positive viewpoint towards mental health is essential.
  • Excellent planning, organizing, analyzing, problem-solving, time management, coordinating, and detail-oriented skills.
  • Budget management knowledge and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations, plus the ability and desire to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to keep confidential information confidential and discreet.
  • Ability and willingness to mentor and motivate with strong leadership skills.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Ability to present information to funders/collaborators/donors and potential ones, public groups, employees, and the Board of Directors. Attentive listener.
  • Willingness to support NAMI San Diego & Imperial County's mission and values.
  • Ability to drive with a valid driver's license, auto insurance, and access to use of an automobile, as needed.
  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to present information to public groups.
  • Strong knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel) and web navigation.
  • Reliable and consistent attendance.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
