Serves as the primary administrator for student conduct issues by providing leadership and oversight for overall operations of the student conduct and complaint systems. Provide daily oversight for the department implementing the Student Code of Conduct and ensures compliance with university policies, as well as local, state, and federal laws as they relate to student conduct.Description of Duties

  • Oversees administrative duties and daily management of the Student Rights and Responsibilities (SRR) Office, including the selection, training, and supervision of staff; oversight of annual goal setting, reporting, policy and compliance reviews, and assessment of student learning outcomes and other metrics; and alignment of departmental practices with the divisional strategic plan and goals.
  • Manages reports received from various campus constituencies, including University Police and the Office of Title IX and Equal Opportunity (OTIXEO) and coordinates case management related to the reports.
  • Responsible for the oversight and planning for departmental budget(s).
  • Oversees and facilitates the Student Complaints and Grievances process.
  • Advocates for student rights and due process while maintaining an environment focused on student development and education, ensuring that the student conduct process is administered in a fair, impartial, non-adversarial and educational manner through the training and recruitment of staff and discipline hearing officer members.
  • Serves as a core member of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and collaborates closely with Student Support and Wellbeing and other departments to implement appropriate interventions and support strategies. As part of the Dean of Students leadership team, steps in as necessary to respond to Campus Crises.
  • Recruits, trains, and manages hearing officers and coordinates disciplinary hearings.
  • Responsible for accurate and complete record management in compliance with UT System records retention policies and FERPA; oversight of case management system for student conduct and complaint records.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, serving as a liaison to key campus constituents.
  • Acts as a responsible employee for Title IX reports, and as a Campus Security Authority for Clery Act purposes.
  • Investigates and adjudicates cases of alleged student misconduct and academic dishonesty; applies developmental sanctions as appropriate.
  • Provides outreach programs to campus constituents regarding the student code of conduct, conflict resolution, academic integrity, and other issues related to SRR.
  • Conducts an annual review of the student code of conduct to ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines and recommends revisions as necessary.
  • Maintains proficiency and up-to-date knowledge in all areas relevant to work in Student Conduct and Behavioral Intervention for self and department, including Clery, FERPA, Title IX, threat assessment and behavioral intervention teams, hazing, First Amendment Rights, etc.
  • Participates actively in the assessment of the department operations and staff performance; constructs annual reports, biennial reviews of the Drug Free Schools and Community Act, and other required assessments.

Supervisory experience in student conduct, Title IX, or related role involving administrative investigations and due process.EquipmentUse of standard office equipment. Microsoft Office suite, Zoom. Proficient use with a case management system such as Maxient or similar.Working ConditionsNeeds to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. Some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.OtherExceptional planning and organizational skills.
