The Director of Contract Management reports to the Assistant Vice President of Procurement Operations within the Strategic Sourcing & Real Estate organization. This role is responsible for managing a team of contract specialists who draft, negotiate, and review a high volume of medium and low complexity contracts across multiple spend categories and vendor types. This role works in close alignment with Category Leads, who define the strategic direction and vendor approach for each category. This leader will advance operational excellence and ensure high quality contracts that are aligned with category strategies and leverage our Contract Lifecycle Management system driving consistency and speed.

The ideal candidate is a forward-thinking influencer who thrives in cross-functional environments, drives innovation, and ensures alignment with organizational objectives. This position is based in our Hartford, CT Home Office and follows a hybrid schedule, with in-office presence required Tuesday through Thursday, and otherwise, as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high performing team of contract specialists
  • Oversee the drafting, negotiation, and review of a high volume of low and mid-complexity contracts across spend categories, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance
  • Ensure contracts are executed in alignment with category strategy and vendor direction as defined by Category Leads
  • Maintain high standards of quality, consistency and compliance across all contract activities resulting in high quality contracts that satisfy legal requirements, mitigate risk, and ensure operational effectiveness
  • Foster a culture of accountability and collaboration
  • Focus on continuous improvement and innovation leveraging technology to improve outcomes
  • Champion a customer-centric approach, ensuring transparency in communication and exceptional service levels and responsiveness
  • Identify process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce cycle time and monitor contract metrics and KPIs to drive performance
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 8+ years of experience in sourcing and contract drafting and negotiating across multiple categories in a large corporate setting
  • A minimum 3+ current/recent years in a leadership role leading a mid to large sized team; experience leading a team of contract specialists preferred
  • Strong strategic and operational acumen with the ability to manage and prioritize a high-volume of contracts handled by team members
  • Proficient in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts with a strong understanding of contract law, negotiation principles and procurement processes
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-driven and proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with strong time management skills
  • Collaborative and adaptable in agile, matrixed environments
  • Skilled in influencing outcomes and driving results through ownership and partnership
  • Data-driven decision-maker with experience leveraging analytics to optimize performance
  • Strong critical thinker, demonstrated problem-solving skills and process improvement orientation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and procurement platforms; experience with Tableau and/or Coupa a plus
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (J.D. or M.B.A.) a plus

Compensation The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.

The annualized base pay range for this role is: $133,440 - $200,160
