Position Summary The Director of Carrier Management and Procurement contributes to the overall delivery of KAG Logistics' transport strategy to provide our customers with a secondary transportation competitive advantage with a strategically developed portfolio of Company owned and contracted resources on term or spot basis. The Director reports to the SVP, Carrier Management and Procurement and works within a team consisting of: Carrier Relation Specialists, Managers of Carrier Development, Transportation and Claims Analysts. Roles and Responsibilities
- Identifies and recommends optimum hiring between inside and outside carriers.
- Negotiates, leads and recommends the operating and relationship management of carrier contracts with all company owned and third-party trucking firms, worth over $400 million per annum.
- Develop relationships with leadership contacts with outsourced logistics organizations to retain and grow logistics services
- Plan and execute logistics solutions and new service offerings
- Overall accountability for the vetting of all carriers to KAG Logistics' standards and helps monitor carrier's safety performance to ensure they maintain those standards
- Manage carrier resources; monitor carrier performance
- Maintain & perform carrier audits of rates and performance.
- Monitor margin and recommend adjustments to operations to improve overall margin for KAG Logistics.
- Participates in, negotiates and helps evaluate RFPs as needed
- Act as an escalation point for operations to ensure carriers are meeting expected service levels
- Coach, mentor, and develop talent within the group.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in logistics procurement, with an emphasis on bulk transportation (dry bulk, liquid bulk, tankers, etc.).
- Demonstrated success in leading underperforming teams and launching new branches or business units.
- Deep understanding of freight regulations, equipment types, carrier networks, and safety protocols.
- Strong leadership, excellent communication, and coaching skills with a people-first mindset.
- Driven / High-energy / Ability to lead and inspire others.
- Proficiency with JAGGAER, TMS platforms and logistics data analytics tools.
- Skilled multi-tasker with excellent organization and time-management skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field.
