Rooted in the values of leadership development, community engagement, and social justice, the program supports high-achieving students throughout their four-year journey. The Director, Burke Scholarship Program is responsible for executing all components of the program, including student advising, service partnerships, budget and grant management, assessment, supervision of staff, and alumni engagement. This role serves as a key liaison to the Burke Foundation and collaborates with units across campus and in the Milwaukee community to ensure the scholarship program advances the mission of the university and the strategic goals of the division.

Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Program Leadership & Student Development: Provide executive oversight of all core components of the Burke Scholarship program including retreats, seminars, leadership trainings, one-on-one advising and coaching, reflection sessions, senior events, and integration with key mission-aligned programs and departments. Ensure the program embodies the university's Jesuit mission and commitment to student formation.Community Service & Partnerships: Cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with Milwaukee nonprofit and community agencies. Oversee student placement and ensure meaningful service experiences. Collaborate with the Arrupe Center and other units to strengthen community-based learning and service initiatives across campus.Assessment & Strategic Reporting: Design and implement data-driven evaluation systems to measure program impact. Track student academic and service progress, analyze trends, and generate reports for the Burke Foundation, advancement, divisional leadership, and university stakeholders. Align assessment practices with university and divisional strategic planning efforts.Grant Management & Fiscal Oversight: Serve as the primary fiscal officer and grant administrator for the Burke Scholarship. Ensure compliance with grant conditions, submit required reports and renewals, manage multi-year budget allocations, and collaborate closely with Advancement, Office of Research and Sponsored Projects, Financial Aid, and the Comptroller's Office.Supervision & Team Development: Responsible for the supervision of staff which includes but is not limited to hiring, terming, disciplinary actions, performance management, staff development, etc.Scholarship Recruitment & Selection: Lead the outreach, recruitment, and selection process for new Burke Scholars. Partner with Undergraduate Admissions, financial aid, community leaders, and alumni to ensure a diverse and talented applicant pool. Coordinate interviews and selection logistics with internal and external stakeholders.Alumni Relations & Advancement: Maintain ongoing engagement with program alumni, coordinating mentorship opportunities, events, communications, and special recognitions such as the annual Stephanie Quade Alumni Award. Support Advancement efforts tied to scholarship giving and program anniversaries.Contribution to the Division of Belonging and Student Affairs: Represent the Burke Program and DBSA on university-wide committees, working groups and divisional initiatives. Contribute to strategic planning, student success efforts, and campus-wide conversations around leadership, service, and student belonging. Serve as a university conduct administrator when needed.Responsible for the supervision of student employees which includes but is not limited to hiring, training, disciplinary actions, ending the student's assignment, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Master's degree in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, Public Service, Non-profit management, or related field.
A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in the administration of service programs in student affairs, higher education or nonprofit setting required.
Commitment to, knowledge of and experience with large-scale community service programming, leadership development and social justice education.
Significant experience in community-based service learning, civic engagement, or nonprofit partnerships.
Strong appreciation for the diverse needs of all members of the campus student community and surrounding city.
Experience in program development, implementation, and assessment. Strong analytical skills.
Demonstrated ability to supervise staff.
Strong communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to easily adapt between stakeholders that include students, community partners, and university and foundation leadership.
Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners to cultivate excellence in program operations and impact.
Strong problem resolution experience, including a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and exercise sound judgement.
Ability to work some nights and weekends when needed to ensure a quality student experience.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Familiarity with Milwaukee's nonprofit ecosystem and local community needs.
Experience with assessment tools and platforms (e.g., Qualtrics, Power BI).
Experience working with foundation partners or donors.
Knowledge of best practices in high-impact scholarship program design and implementation.
Familiarity with CMS platforms and Microsoft 365 suite.
