The Director, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning is a key member of a newly formed, high-visibility team at NYSE, focused on enhancing market microstructure data analysis to better understand market behavior and provide value-added data sets. The team is small initially, with plans to expand into a larger business unit.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter, hands-on, and capable of establishing the department from scratch. They will independently and collaboratively research, design, develop, and implement innovative AI, Machine Learning, deep learning, NLP, Cloud, and Data Science solutions to advance NYSE's analytics across various business lines.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify ML/AI/NLP innovations for quantitative analysis and surveillance to automate processes, discover knowledge, and support decision-making
- Develop and prototype new algorithms, write code for novel solutions
- Evaluate solutions through prototyping and metrics, and coordinate with stakeholder teams
- Communicate complex models to stakeholders and experts effectively
- Assess tradeoffs between internal development and external partnerships for new technologies
- Stay informed on emerging ML/AI/NLP and Data Science developments
- Present at conferences, workshops, and meetups
- Meet with management and staff to report progress and discuss issues
- Supervise staff in application development and support
- Contribute to system design and implementation planning
- Update management on progress and issues
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years in multiple technology disciplines with experience in business, management, and people leadership
- 5+ years in the financial domain
- 2+ years applying AI/ML/NLP/deep learning to financial market data
- Strong knowledge of machine learning, AI, deep learning, NLP, and unstructured data analytics
- Proficiency in Python, C/C++, Java, R, MATLAB, Scala, with frameworks like TensorFlow, Caffe, Spark, Hadoop
- Experience developing custom algorithms beyond open-source tools
- Proven success with advanced technology solutions in ML/AI/NLP/data science
- Knowledge of data management, analytics middleware, cloud computing (AWS), data visualization tools, GPU programming, and fog computing is a plus
- Excellent communication skills for explaining complex solutions to diverse audiences
- Experience in R&D environments within agile, innovation-driven cultures
