Be impactful!Job Description SummaryThe NYCSCA In-House Design Studio is seeking an innovative and responsive Director to join our growing Architectural and Engineering practice. This is a unique opportunity to lead a multidisciplinary team committed to Design Excellence-at the heart of our mission to create an inspiring learning environment for K-12 students across New York City's five boroughs.As a managing Director you will be leading a team of architects and collaborating with Design Managers on innovative solutions that support the next generation of schools. You will be responsible for successful planning and completion of diverse projects in types and scales, ensuring sound technical quality on all the deliverables.   • Provides design direction to Architectural staffs that aligns with the A&E Vice President vision for design excellence.
  • Bring best practice and provide technical guidance to solve a problem.
  • Manages staff within a designated architectural and guide Design Managers.
  • Directs the activities of an internal architectural and engineering Studio which provides pre- design, design and construction support services for Authority projects.
  • Serves as a member of the Departments Operations Committee, developing strategies, policies and procedures for the Department of Architecture and Engineering.
  • Ensures that scope development and design services are provided in a timely, cost effective manner and meet Authority quality standards.
  • Collaborates with the Construction Management team, Chief Project Officers, and ensures that projects meet Department of Education requirements and capital plan time-frames.
  • Reports on Studio activities, including project status, staff utilization, implementation of Authority design standards and quality control.
  • With the Technical Standards and Services Studio, develops and improves design standards and specifications, including assisting in evaluating new systems and materials.
  • Ensures that program and scope development activities are in accordance with Department of Education priorities, Authority policies and Operations Committee standards.
  • May serve as Acting Senior Director, Architecture and Engineering in the absence of the Senior Director.
  • May represent the Department at the Executive Committee meetings where strategic, sensitive and long-range planning and policy proposals are discussed and developed.
  • Plans, assigns, directs, monitors, reviews and evaluates work performed by Studio staff.
  • Makes recommendations regarding recruitment, hiring, promotion, reassignment and discipline.
  • Performs related tasks.
Requires: NYS Registered Architect License. (See below for other requiredQualifications)
  • Education: Baccalaureate: Bachelor of Architecture
  • Education Preferred: Masters in Architecture
Preferred Skills
  • Led multi-disciplinary design teams and complex projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring best practice to organizations.
  • Understanding technology and the opportunities that it offers to architecture and engineering practice in respect to efficiency and improvement to design and design deliverables.
  • Has comprehensive knowledge of sustainable design strategies, including LEED practices.
  • Experienced in leading a team of over 10 staff members.
