The Director, 3PL/4PL Excellence, Global Transportation & Trade Operations, is a critical leader in J&J Global Supply Chain Services organization, responsible for architecting, governing, and executing world-class logistics performance across all transportation modesAir, Ocean, Ground, Parceland Customs Brokerage partners.
This position provides strategic leadership for the 4PL Control Tower, global Supplier Relationship Management, and the enterprise-wide 3PL Excellence program. Additionally, the role leads a cross-regional Transport Excellence Council, fostering integration of regional operations and alignment of strategic priorities to drive global consistency, innovation, and continuous improvement.
As a senior leader within GTTO Strategy & Operations Centralized Services, the Director drives global integration of transportation and trade operations, advancing strategic priorities in value creation, cost efficiency, and service excellence. Leading a high-performing global team, the role serves as the central conduit across regional operations, technology, analytics, procurement, compliance, and external logistics partners to ensure unified execution aligned with enterprise objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
4PL Excellence: Control Tower Management (40%)
- Provide strategic oversight of the 4PL Control Tower Service Provider, ensuring excellence in performance, process governance and data integrity. Collaborate with regional operations leaders to align performance management with global standards, support contract administration in close partnership with Procurement, and co-develop the strategic roadmap with the 4PL partner to drive innovation, scalability, and continuous improvement across transportation operations.
- Lead the expansion of the Control Tower coverage across Business Units and Franchises, partnering with cross-functional teams to enable the success of deployment and business as usual integration.
- Oversee freight audit & pay integration, process governance, and digital platform adoption (e.g., TMS, Control Tower systems, 3PL connectivity, etc).
- Ensure seamless coordination between real-time execution, financial controls and long-term strategic transportation planning.
Strategic Leadership & Global Program Management (20%)
- Define and evolve the strategic roadmap for global 4PL Control Tower and 3PL Excellence programs.
- Establish global policies, standards, and executional models for transportation and customs brokerage operations.
- Partner with senior leadership across regions to translate business needs into aligned transportation and trade operations 3PL/4PL capabilities.
- Enable scalable, resilient, and cost-effective operations through strategic partnerships and continuous improvement.
3PL Excellence & Supplier Relationship Management (30%)
- Own global SRM strategic framework for transportation and customs providers, ensuring structured onboarding, SLA/KPI adherence, performance reviews, and corrective action frameworks.
- Lead contract performance management and strategic relationship development with key 3PL and customs brokerage partners, in coordination with Procurement, Legal and in collaboration with Regional Operations Leaders.
- Design and deploy scorecards, benchmarking, and value-creation plans with each service provider.
Cross-functional Collaboration, Innovation & Team Development (10%)
- Serve as the operational interface between 4PL transportation execution and global partners in procurement, JJT, finance, planning, and quality.
- Sponsor global digital initiatives to drive automation, analytics, visibility, and optimization across modes and regions.
- Actively support centralized freight audit, cost control, master data governance, and trade compliance programs.
- Lead a distributed team of managers and professionals across regions and functions.
- Foster a diverse and inclusive high-performance culture focused on accountability, innovation, and cross-regional knowledge sharing.
- Invest in career development, team coaching, and technical competency building.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Drive cost efficiency and budgeting discipline across global transportation operations execution under 4PL ownership.
- Champion a Lean mindset and process innovation across global executional services and global 3PL/4PL partners.
- Stay current on logistics trends, technologies, regulatory changes, and market intelligence to inform strategy and maintain a competitive edge.
- Ensure compliance with regulations; proactively mitigate operational, financial, and security risks.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field (required)
- Master's strongly preferred
Experience & Skills:
- 10+ years in transportation, supply chain, or logistics, including at least 5 years leading 4PL/3PL management and SRMpotentially including customs broker managementin a global, matrixed environment
- Advanced knowledge of Air, Ocean, Ground, Parcel logistics networks, customs clearance, and SRM best practices
- Strong negotiation and contract management experience spanning logistics and customs brokerage providers
- Proven financial acumen and ability to lead cost-reduction, change management and value-creation initiatives
- Expertise in digital supply chain tools (TMS, analytics, control tower platforms)
- Exceptional analytical, communication, and team leadership skills
- Leadership of international teams and global process/systems implementations
- Ability to travel up to 20% domestically/globally.
