Position Summary:The Derrick Digger Ground Hand is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of a digger derrick crew. This role involves ground-level tasks such as preparing job sites, handling materials, assisting with pole installation, and maintaining communication with the operator and crew. A Ground Hand plays a key role in ensuring operations meet safety standards and project timelines.Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with setting up and breaking down job sites
- Spot the digger derrick during operation to ensure safe digging and lifting
- Dig holes, set poles, and backfill as directed
- Handle and position materials such as poles, anchors, and concrete forms
- Help assemble and place rebar cages and bolt templates
- Use hand tools, power tools, and small equipment as needed
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area
- Follow all safety protocols, including wearing required PPE
- Assist in loading/unloading equipment and materials
- Communicate clearly with the operator and crew members to coordinate tasks
- Flag traffic or operate temporary traffic control devices when necessary
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- 1+ years of utility construction or related labor experience preferred
- Familiarity with digger derrick operations and basic rigging is a plus
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in various outdoor conditions
- Willingness to travel and work long hours as needed
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening
- Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required)
