Qualifications
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and one year of full-time experience in teaching/instruction, teaching assistance, training, social services, or in providing services to individuals with disabilities.
Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional qualifying college coursework in education, social or behavioral science, business management, or other related field may be substituted for the required experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants for this class must:
Possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority; Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority; Supply a fingerprint sample prescribed by the TBI based criminal history records check; Submit to a review of their status on the Department of Health's vulnerable persons registry. Overview
This classification performs vocational support services work of average difficulty. An employee in this class is responsible for providing training support to students and faculty and supervising student activities within the classroom. This classification performs responsibilities at the entry level under general supervision. This class differs from the DHS Campus Life Assistant in that incumbents of the latter are responsible for assisting students with adjusting to campus life, providing support for learning and training opportunities, and monitoring the health and wellness of the students.
Responsibilities
Supports vocational trainers in various areas of study and behavioral, soft skill, and employment development skill classes. May train students using instructor-provided lesson plans during instructor absences. Tutors students in areas of study and skill development to promote student academical success. Provides accommodations to assist students in overcoming or working around their disability to promote academic achievement. Assists in planning and preparation for Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) activities and trainings. Monitors and supports youth and adult recipients through job exploration counseling, work- based learning experiences, postsecondary counseling, workplace readiness, and self-advocacy. Conducts orientation for students during internships. May transport and accompany students to the internship site to provide job coaching. Monitors students on campus. Engages and interacts with students to identify safety concerns and encourage participation in academic activities. Evacuates students in emergency situations and conducts roll call. Accompanies and transports students to off-campus locations for interviews, internships, vocational training, Pre-ETS activities, medical appointments, and other needs as necessary.
