Position Summary:

The Senior DevOps Engineering Lead is a strategic and hands-on leadership role responsible for managing a team of DevOps Engineers and SQL DBAs, ensuring seamless operations across cloud and on-premises infrastructure. This position is central to automating delivery pipelines, maintaining Azure cloud infrastructure, and enforcing robust database management practices.

The ideal candidate is an ownership-driven leader with strong Microsoft Azure management experience, including proficiency in networking, security configurations, cost optimization, and service provisioning, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a proactive attitude that requires minimal follow-up. You will help drive the transformation of infrastructure and operations through automation, scalability, and resilience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and empower a multidisciplinary team of DevOps engineers and database administrators.
  • Define performance expectations and foster a culture of accountability, autonomy, and excellence.
  • Promote proactive ownership—anticipate problems, initiate solutions, and execute without needing extensive oversight.
  • Hire and develop top talent; guide growth through mentorship and technical guidance.

Cloud & Infrastructure Strategy

  • Architect and manage resilient Azure environments with an emphasis on performance, cost-efficiency, and fault tolerance.
  • Oversee both on-premise and Azure IIS web environments, ensuring consistent deployments and high uptime.
  • Lead Azure cost management, budgeting, and optimization efforts.
  • Plan and execute migration of services and workloads from on-premise to Azure, including application servers, databases, batch processing jobs, and storage systems.
  • Set up and configure new Azure environments, services, and governance policies.
  • Own SQL Server infrastructure lifecycle—from architecture and deployment to patching, backup, tuning, and security.
  • Collaborate with DBAs to ensure consistent practices for: HA/DR, query tuning, change tracking, and compliance.
  • CI/CD, Automation, & Governance
  • Lead the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and Git.
  • Enforce Infrastructure as Code (IaC) standards for both application and database provisioning.
  • Implement policy-based governance and automated compliance checks where applicable.

Release & Operations Management

  • Serve as the release manager for critical deployments, ensuring rigorous pre-flight checks and post-deployment validation.
  • Maintain proactive monitoring and incident response procedures.
  • Establish SOPs for deployments, rollbacks, and escalations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting
  • Collaborate with software engineering, QA, InfoSec, and product teams to align DevOps and database priorities.
  • Prepare regular reports on infrastructure and database performance, risk posture, and operational metrics using tools such as Azure Monitor and SQL Profiler, with reporting frequencies aligned to monthly executive reviews and weekly operational standups.
  • Lead cross-functional meetings and participate in IT roadmap planning.

Job Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in DevOps and Infrastructure Engineering roles.
  • 5+ years in a technical leadership or team management role.
  • 5+ years of deep SQL Server administration experience, with emphasis on cloud-based environments preferred, though strong on-prem experience is also valued.

Technical & Tooling Expertise

  • Azure Resource Management, Security, Networking, and operational tooling.
  • Experience designing and implementing Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies in Azure.
  • Experience migrating workloads from on-prem to cloud and setting up new Azure environments.

  • Infrastructure as Code: ARM, Bicep, Terraform, or similar.
  • Scripting: PowerShell, Bash.
