CITY OF MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTIONCLASSIFICATION TITLE: DETENTION OFFICERPURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION - The purpose of this classification is to provide and maintain security, safety, care, and control of inmates, detention facility, and facility equipment and to supervise inmates in the city jail. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Enforces all the rules and regulations of the jail; maintains safety and security of the general public, facility staff, and inmates; takes custody of new arrivals; escorts inmates to various parts of the jail facility.
