Desktop Support Technician / Information Technology Specialist I

Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Desktop Support Technician / Information Technology Specialist I. The successful candidate will install, upgrade, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot operating systems, application software, and hardware installed on university computing devices (including desktop computers, laptops, smartphones, tablets, printers, and scanners). They will also support the setup, configuration, and troubleshooting of workstation network connectivity, provide user assistance and consultation on workstation operation and use, and assist with the student technology program. This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma / GED
  • Experience in a customer service environment
  • Strong knowledge of various software applications, including Windows OS and the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently, and to provide outstanding customer support

Preferred:

  • Undergraduate degree in Computing, Information Sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with Mac OS
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with endpoint management software (e.g., Intune, Jamf, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager)

  • This is a full-time, classified, non-exempt position in pay band 4.
  • A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required.
