Desktop Publishing Assistant

The Simon & Schuster Design and Digital Content Development team is hiring a desktop publishing assistant to help us make great books. The assistant will heavily focus on corrections, conversions, and backlist reprints. Responsibilities include making corrections to existing files, resizing files into new trim sizes, reviewing and updating older file assets to meet current design standards and guidelines, logging and reviewing files for reprint requests, ensuring timely management of due dates and schedules, creating reduction or enlargement samples, reviewing files for design consistency, page makeup, and compliance with in-house standards and preflight requirements, sending final files to print vendors, reviewing final proofs for compliance with provided production specs and industry-standard print guidelines, and archiving final interior title assets. The assistant should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and extremely organized. Because the job is deadline-sensitive, this person must be able to manage their time well. Requirements include expert knowledge in Adobe InDesign, experience with Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, knowledge of proofreader's marks, and familiarity with book composition standards.
