Position Title: Designated Student Official (DSO)

Department: Student Services

Reports To: Director of Academics

Primary Location: Washington, DC

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Parameters: Full-time; 12 months/year

Pay Range: $42,000 - $45,000

Position Summary: Provides support to international degree-seeking students, including academic and immigration advising, orientation and departure programs, and recruitment of international students. The DSO manages immigration documents and ensures compliance with regulations.

Essential Functions:

  • Understand, follow, and comply with university and US Government policies regarding F-1 students.
  • Manage SEVIS records, communicate with government agencies, and ensure timely reporting.
  • Coordinate with Admissions and Registrar to complete student files.
  • Guide prospective and current international students and their sponsors.
  • Assist staff with immigration and compliance questions.
  • Enter data into SEVIS and generate Form I-20.
  • Support students with registration and cross-cultural adjustment issues.
  • Ensure all federal reporting deadlines are met.
  • Maintain accurate student records and respond to DHS inquiries.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • At least two years of advising experience in higher education and familiarity with student information systems.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Understanding of policies related to student immigration and safety.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of college policies, US immigration regulations, and student services tools.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, multitask, and solve problems independently.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with staff, students, and external agencies.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements: Office setting with possible travel, early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Sedentary work involving lifting, communication, and manual dexterity.

Additional Notes: COVID-19 vaccination required. This is an entry-level, full-time, contract position in the field of higher education.
