POWER Engineers, Member of WSP, is seeking a Senior Design Studies Engineer with expertise in Line Design and EMT Studies. This position is available in multiple POWER office locations with the possibility of remote work from a mutually agreed location.

Roles and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for completing assigned projects and maintaining strong client relationships. This includes technical work in primary production roles, client interactions, and mentoring team members. Projects will involve AC and DC transmission line and substation design support studies for utility and commercial clients.

Studies Will Include
  • Insulation coordination for AC and DC applications
  • Transient simulation
  • TRV analysis
  • Circuit breaker rating studies
  • Steady state unbalance and transposition studies
  • Single pole reclosing and secondary arc current design
  • Delayed zero crossing
  • Neutral reactor sizing
  • NESC clearance studies
  • Equipment minimum approach distance studies
  • Phase conductor sizing/selection
  • Optical shield wire sizing
  • Lightning performance prediction
  • Lightning/surge/voltage arrester application
  • Corona performance prediction
  • Corrosion analysis and mitigation
  • Finite-element electric/magnetic field analysis
  • Resonance studies/mitigation
  • Electric losses and economic considerations
  • FACTS device implementation
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Experience with relevant software tools
Preferred
  • Power Systems MSEE or PhD
  • PE license or equivalent
  • Experience in customer-focused projects
  • Experience with COMSOL or Polaris-EMF
