Role Overview
We are seeking an Ivy League–educated, high-performing attorney with exceptional interpersonal skills and a passion for thought leadership to serve as Deputy General Counsel. This is not a traditional in-house role—it's a launchpad for a rising legal star who wants to lead in an environment of innovation, technology adoption, and strategic disruption.
You will work hand-in-hand with the Chief Legal Officer to lead a world-class legal and compliance function, drive the adoption of AI-powered legal solutions, and play a key role in governance, strategic decision-making, and operational excellence. This is a highly visible role with direct exposure to the executive team, board members, regulators, and global partners.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Oversight
• Lead and inspire the Legal and Compliance teams, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and a culture of innovation.
• Act as the first-line advisor for legal and compliance matters, escalating to the CLO as needed.
• Provide direct mentorship, professional development, and growth pathways for a high-performing team.
Compliance & Governance
• Oversee all aspects of regulatory compliance, licensing, and corporate governance.
• Support board functions and investor relations with precision and discretion.
• Design and implement advanced risk management frameworks and reporting systems.
Innovation & AI Integration
• Lead the transformation of legal operations through AI and emerging legal tech.
• Partner with technology teams to create automation, analytics, and scalable workflows.
• Shape the future of compliance and law through thought leadership and forward-looking strategies.
External Representation & Influence
• Represent the company confidently with regulators, partners, and industry leaders.
• Build trusted relationships across the organization, fostering a collaborative and solution-driven legal culture.
Program Development
• Oversee the company's legal internship program to identify and mentor top talent.
• Lead internal engagement surveys and initiatives that advance the department's leadership approach.
Ideal Candidate
• J.D. from an Ivy League or top-tier law school; member of the New York Bar (or eligible for in-house registration).
• 5–10 years of legal experience at a top law firm, prestigious clerkship, or high-growth corporate environment.
• Proven ability to manage legal and compliance initiatives in dynamic, regulated industries.
• Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills; a natural relationship builder and trusted advisor.
• Track record of leveraging AI, automation, or legal tech to drive efficiency and innovation.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a bias for action, intellectual curiosity, and passion for building.

The annual starting base salary for this position is $250,000, with the potential of a performance-based bonus or incentive. While we anticipate this compensation range, it is not a guaranteed salary. Actual compensation can vary based on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill set, experience, responsibilities, and education.
