The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) supports community-based organizations and programs that mitigate poverty and create opportunities for New Yorkers to thrive. Under its Workforce Connect division, DYCD manages a diverse portfolio of Youth Workforce Development programs including Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), NYC Ladders for Leaders, Work, Learn, and Grow, Advance & Earn, Train & Earn, and Learn & Earn. DYCD is seeking a Deputy Director for the In-School Youth Workforce Programming unit, which oversees SYEP, Learn & Earn, Ladders for Leaders and Work, Learn and Grow initiatives. SYEP provides paid summer employment for NYC youth (ages 14–24) in entry-level positions across the nonprofit and private sectors, complemented by workshops on workplace etiquette, career exploration, educational pathways, social development, and financial literacy. During the school year, the Work, Learn and Grow initiative builds on this experience by further developing work readiness, offering academic support, including opportunities to earn college credits and guiding postsecondary education decisions. Together with Learn & Earn, these initiatives are integrated with select NYC Public Schools through CareerReady partnerships, ensuring program delivery across all five boroughs.

  • Assist Director in overseeing the ongoing operations of In-School Youth by managing process, establishing program priorities, ensuring adherence to established Agency procedures;
  • Assist Director with maintenance and updates to our online database system, coordination with systems vendor, testing of system in preparation for use in coming program year and coordination of training and technical support to contractors;
  • Provide overall supervision to assigned permanent and seasonal staff;
  • Assist in management of assigned contracts to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, including but not limited to recruitment, job development, data entry, enrollment, placement, timekeeping, payroll, monitoring, evaluation, counseling, program budgeting and file upkeep;
  • Prepare detailed reporting utilizing advanced spreadsheet software techniques and synthesize complex information into presentations and reports for various audiences;
  • Prepare written, visual and digital communications including letters, testimonies and talking points for senior agency management;
  • Promote and market In-School Youth programming through various outlets and means including but not limited to presentations at DYCD and community events, marketing materials, written communication promoting program, coordination of press releases with DYCD press officer and social media;
  • Research best practices, work with the capacity building division and use quantitative and qualitative analysis to inform the creation of new policies, practices and educational curriculum;
  • Oversee the planning and development of trainings for In-School Youth providers;
  • Plan and coordinate In-School Youth special events including but not limited to In-School Youth kickoff and end-of-program events and VIP visits to In-School Youth programs and worksites;
  • Work collaboratively across all DYCD workforce, youth and community development programs as well as with outside stakeholders including intergovernmental partners, community based organizations, and private sector and foundation partners;
  • Perform field work in all five boroughs to ensure vendor compliance with all applicable contract requirements and program performance standards;
  • Perform other duties as determined by the Director of In-School Youth.
COMMUNITY COORDINATOR - 56058Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
Preferred Skills
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, with some in a managerial capacity. 2) Knowledge of the goals, objectives, structure and operations of DYCD and youth workforce development programming 3) Extensive knowledge of MS Excel, data management systems, MS Word and MS PowerPoint and other software 4) Knowledge of New York City contracting and procurement processes 5) Ability to perform complex tasks and to prioritize multiple projects 6) Excellent oral and written communication skills 7) Demonstrated managerial and organizational skills 8) Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills
