Kite & Key Media is looking for a Deputy Director of Development who is passionate about the continued expansion of a growing organization with ambitious plans. The right candidate will be entrepreneurial and an organization-builder ready to embrace big goals. To apply, please send your resume, cover letter (required), and your favorite Kite & Key video to [email protected].

Position Summary:

Kite & Key seeks a Deputy Director of Development to build and manage a portfolio of foundations and high-net-worth individual donors capable of making important multiyear strategic gifts. Alongside this work, they will help manage Kite & Key's new paid membership program, strategizing with the Marketing team to increase the program's growth, as well as identifying members who ought to become major givers.

The successful candidate will have experience identifying, contacting, and pitching high-level donors and securing major gifts, as well as managing small-dollar members and growing their ranks — all in service of establishing new relationships that will help enable the organization's continued strategic expansion.

This role is ideal for a development professional who has a keen interest in public policy, public education, and the digital media space. The ideal candidate will be deeply curious, have a proven drive for success, an acute recognition of the power of ideas, and demonstrable passion for Kite & Key's work: we are an organization committed to the notion that civil, thoughtful policy conversations — rooted in facts — are a precondition of a wiser society. We are looking for someone who shares these core values and wants to advance the mission, helping us build a new kind of institution to help, over time, significantly improve typical Americans' understanding of crucial public policy subjects.

Experience at the management level is ideal, and there is significant room for growth as we build out the team — but the role is quite independent and self-directed (without staff to be managed for the time being).

Key Objectives and Responsibilities:

  • Work collegially, creatively, and with shared purpose with the Chief Development Officer to achieve fundraising objectives.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategy with measurable objectives and goals to generate current and future revenue from foundations and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Design and implement incentives and strategies to convert highly engaged viewers into paying members.
  • Identify prospects, from your own network and from conducting in-depth research, to understand their philanthropic priorities and passions, and structure thoughtful outreach strategies.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years in roles related to individual and major donor cultivation, stewardship, foundation grants, and/or membership programs.
  • Fundraising Success: Proven ability to achieve personal annual fundraising goals of $1 million or more in new gifts.
  • Strategic Development: Track record of creating and implementing successful development strategies in accountable positions.
  • Major Gifts Program: Demonstrated success in executing major gifts programs, including prospect engagement, face-to-face cultivation, and solicitation of gifts; strong skills in identifying, researching, cultivating, and stewarding prospects and donors.
  • Membership and Digital Marketing: Experience in building membership efforts alongside major gifts, with insights into effective digital marketing strategies.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel nationally to pursue and expand prospect and donor relationships.
  • In-Person Meetings: Availability for occasional travel to New York for in-person meetings with the Chief Development Officer (CDO).
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.

Essential Personality Traits and Skills:

  • Creative and Strategic Thinker: A congenial individual with an entrepreneurial spirit, a sense of urgency, and a knack for finding opportunities. Highly organized, strategic, diplomatic, and results-oriented.
  • Energetic and Passionate: A polished, self-starting individual with vision and drive.
  • Relationship Builder: Skilled at building relationships, inspiring trust and confidence, and collaborating with individuals across various positions inside and outside the organization.
  • Effective Communicator: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, capable of understanding and conveying policy-related ideas, priorities, and issues in ways that inspire donors.
  • Team Player: An excellent team player who works well with others.
  • Unwavering Integrity: Demonstrates honesty, directness, and integrity above reproach.

Compensation:

Competitive compensation (salary range $90,000 to $120,000) plus benefits.

How to apply:
