SALARY: The salary range for this position is $99,370.93 to $156,207.04. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. The Deputy Clerk of the Tax Court supports the Clerk/Administrator and the Presiding Judge in managing the operations of the Tax Court of New Jersey. This leadership role helps guide day-to-day functions and strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with the Judiciary's mission, core values, and statewide policies using in-depth knowledge of the Rules Governing the Tax Court, applicable statues and Tax Court workflows. The Deputy Clerk plays a critical leadership role and may act on behalf of the Clerk/Administrator when needed. REMOTE WORK: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access. Example of Duties
- Assist in overseeing daily operations across both primary court locations in Trenton and Newark. Responsibilities include managing case flow processing, electronic case systems, records retention, statistical reporting, and customer service.
- Assist in the leadership and day-to-day oversight of Tax Court personnel, including direct supervision of the professional staffSupport the development and implementation of Tax Court goals. Acts as a key resource for the resolution of rule related and technical questions on all Tax Court topics for all customers. Support the hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and professional development of staff.
- Work closely with judges and chambers staff to ensure seamless coordination and operational support. Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including attorneys, self-represented litigants, other Judiciary units, and government agencies.
- Collaborate with various technical and technology units, serving as a liaison between Tax Court judges, staff, and IT teams to resolve problems and support ongoing system improvements. Effectively communicate the business needs and functional requirements of the court's technology systems.
- Primary responsibility for development and implementation of policies, and procedures to ensure efficient and effective workflows for internal and external customers. Contribute to the preparation of official reports, internal communications, and training materials. Participate in statewide and local committees to advance Judiciary-wide and Tax Court objectives.
- Assist in managing space planning, facilities maintenance, furnishings, and related infrastructure for all Tax Court locations Support safety and emergency response efforts, including the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) and ADA coordination.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective and efficient operation of the Tax Court.
Though primarily based in Trenton, the Deputy Clerk will also report to the Newark office on a rotating schedule and may travel to other vicinages as needed. Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and five years of professional administrative and/or program management experience; three of which shall have included responsibility for program development and/or implementation and the achievement of program goals. Substitution: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional professional experience on a year-for-year basis with one year of such experience being equal to 30 semester hour credits. An associate's degree and two years of additional professional experience may be substituted for the required bachelor's degree. A master's degree may be substituted for one year of experience as indicated above -OR- a law degree may be substituted for two years of experience as indicated above. Education Note: Degrees conferred outside of the United States must be evaluated by a recognized evaluation service.
