Description Compensation Range: $17/hr - $19/hr commensurate with experience. Benefits: We have three comprehensive healthcare plans to choose from based on your priorities and budget. Housing Works covers most of the plan; you pay a portion, based on your salary. Staff begins accruing PTO immediately for a total of up to 30 days earned in the first year. We offer employees an educational benefit. This money is available for tuition loan reimbursement, tuition costs, and text books. Overview: The delivery drivermaintains and executes the mail handling and interoffice movement function for Housing Works.Responsibilities: Your primary goals areto:
  • Ensure that safety and security procedures are followedat all times.
  • Physically distribute mail andpackages to and from various departmentsand perform other duties incidental to the movement and processing of mail throughout Housing Works.
  • Leadership and ownership of mail distribution, analyzing and improving mail systems for improvement.
Job Functions
  • Handle all materials received in the Mail Center[receive, review, receipt, document, process, prepare, identify, separate,deliver, transport, etc.].
  • Prepare items for processing, shipment, ortransportation.
  • Pickup outbound boxes and packages from internallocations and distribute themin a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensuringthat incoming and outgoing mail completes its full cycle ofdelivery.
  • Enter activity data in logs andmaintain records.
  • Operate all mail center equipment, collect, and meter outgoing mail.
  • Perform outside messenger duties as required.
  • Providematerial and clericalsupport to theOperations department including but not limited to filing, photocopying, faxing, typing, delivering,moving,etc.
  • Work to ensure compliance withpolicies, procedures,systems, andcontrols.
  • Serves as the major liaison withother departmentsto ensureeffectivecommunication ofmailneeds.
  • Respond to issues and ensure appropriateescalation processes are followed by communicating critical issues tothe Operations Manager-Support without delay.
  • Advises theOperations Manager-Support aboutpersonnel requirements, material needs, subcontract requirements, facility and equipment need to meet or exceed operational plans.
Other duties as assigned bymanagement.
  • People & Teamwork
    • Working directly with the Operations Manager Support on career development with Microsoft, Data, Salesforce, & Etc.
    • Demonstrates excellent teamwork and growth within the team and coworkers.
    • Builds relationships with other Housing Works staff and departments.
    • Maintains a high level of professionalism, integrity, and communication with other staff.
    • Provides excellent internal and external customer service; recognizes the needs of other team members and helps when needed.
  • Driver's Accountability
    • The driver is responsible for completing 4 inspection sheets a month on vehicles.
    • The driver is responsible for keeping their license clean and valid.
    • The driver is responsible for moving violations which are red light, speeding, & bus lane tickets.
    • HW will pay for all parking tickets. All drivers must follow the NYC traffic laws that are set in place for everyone that drives.
    • No drivers can use their own personal vehicles to drive for the company.
    • All drivers must use the company vehicles that are assigned to their department.
  • Advocacy
    • Participate in advocacy and direct action to end the twin crisis of homelessness and HIV/AIDS.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required, some College or Degree preferred.
Skills/Qualifications:
  • Valid andclean NY State Driver's licenseand abilityto navigateNYCstreets and the surrounding boroughs.
  • Minimum ofone (1) year clerical experiencein a general office environment required.
  • Ability to handle and lift large mail bags, boxes, and trays (50 lbs.) required.
  • Basicknowledge of Postal Service (USPS) rates and fees; general understanding of mail center equipment and operations.
  • Dependable & flexible as well as possessing the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent alphabetical and numerical filing skills.
  • Basic computer knowledgeand prior experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel required.
  • Good attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Able to prioritize and follow through on assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a team player while maintaining a professional manner and presentation at all times.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Competency in performing multiple functional tasks.
  • Assertive and resourceful; self-motivated; willing toask questions, take initiative and be able to communicate clearly.
  • Consistently demonstrate professional demeanor,appearance, and attitude.
