Job Description :

Responsible for providing vision, leadership, management, supervision and administration of the instructional and academic service programs of the Resources for Learning (RFL) Division which encompasses Library Services, and Academic Support Center (Anatomy Room, Developmental Math Center, Success Services for Students, Supplemental Instruction, Tutoring Center, Writing Center).

General Administration:

  • Guide and work with library faculty and professionals to develop strategic and innovative educational and information resources, services and programs that support the College curricula and student success, teaching and learning, and enhance life-long learning.
  • Manage supervisory and professional staff in the Academic Support Center to ensure adoption of best practices for delivery of in-person and virtual academic support services to students.
  • Build and maintain productive and collaborative relationships with other College constituents including Administration, Division Deans, Department Chairpersons, Student Affairs, Program Coordinators and faculty to ensure excellent and timely delivery of services to support teaching and learning and student success at the College.
  • Create a climate of high performance in which all Division staff members are engaged in delivery of quality services to students, faculty, staff and the Community at large.
  • Build and maintain local, regional, state and national consortia relationships which enhance the library collection and service delivery and contribute to substantial monetary savings for the College.
  • Articulate and interpret administrative decisions, College policies, operating procedures and the Collective Bargaining Agreements to Division personnel.
  • Approve recommended schedules and assignments of all full and part-time personnel in Division.
  • Schedule and conduct regular meetings of the Division.
  • Articulate and advocate goals of the Division throughout the campus community.
  • Plan, maintain and operate a safe and instructionally sound environment for faculty, staff, students and patrons.
  • Assume other duties as delegated or assigned by the Associate Provost or Provost.
  • Fiscal:

  • Develop and recommend an operating budget for the Division and be responsible for the implementation of the adopted budget.
  • Assess staff needs and make recommendations to the Associate Provost.
  • Promote usage data collection, analysis and evaluation to recommend adoption of best practices and to advocate for increased funding.
  • Develop and implement procedures for the control, request and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment and be responsible for maintaining an accurate inventory of supplies.
  • Faculty and Staff:

  • Provide direct supervision for the Library Services Department Chairperson, all full-time and adjunct library faculty, and Academic Support Center Manager.
  • Evaluate faculty within the Division and make recommendations for retention, promotion and/or tenure appointments as necessary.
  • Assume primary responsibility for recruitment of staff within the Division, make recommendations for appointment and ensure that all staff are evaluated regularly.
  • Responsible for the orientation of new full and part-time employees of the Division to their responsibilities and coordinate their in-service training.
  • Supervise the division office staff and the maintenance of adequate records and office equipment for the division.
  • Encourage professional development of all RFL Divisions' employees.
  • Provide leadership in planning, developing, and maintaining integrated library systems, print and digital collections such as databases and streaming media and digital content management systems and networks.
  • Facilitate, communicate and collaborate with the Academy for Teaching Excellence and Student Affairs to ensure continuous improvement of RFL services to support teaching and learning and student success.
  • Provide leadership for all areas of the library to ensure services for effective and efficient instruction and adequate print and electronic resources.
  • Continue to support the college initiative to reduce student textbook costs.
  • Support the planning, development and promotion of instruction using new technologies as appropriate.
  • Institutional/Community Service:

  • Member of Provost Leadership Team, President's Learning Council, Operational Council, and institutional committees (as assigned).
  • Serve as agent of the College within the community as related to the Division.
  • Coordinate participation in appropriate consortia and organizations relative to the responsibilities of the Division.
  • Ensure representation on appropriate community organizations and advisory committees.
  • Education: Master of Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA Accredited institution is required; a second master's or advanced degree is preferred.

    Experience:

    Required

    • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership and management experience in academic libraries, and academic support centers including strategic planning, fiscal and personnel management, instructional and automated library systems and technologies.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging developments, innovations and challenges in academic libraries, academic support centers and higher education.
    • Strong commitment to developing a diverse, equitable and inclusive library and academic support center environment.

    Preferred

    • Ability to cultivate partnerships within and outside the library and college demonstrated success in collaborative leadership in a college setting.
