In 1950, Riviera Day School was founded as a co-educational, independent day school with the highest educational ideals. Today, Riviera Day School serves students PK3 - 5th grade. In 2011, Riviera Preparatory School moved to a new, state-of-the-art facility on almost 14 acres located just minutes away from the original campus and now serves students in grades 6-12. Riviera is known throughout the community for its long tradition of educational excellence. While Riviera has established a reputation for excellence in academia and serves as a leader in education and in the community, Riviera may be even more well known for the learning environment it creates for the students. Role Overview The Dean plays a key role in supporting student growth by teaching social skills, guiding behavior redirection, and ensuring consistent enforcement of school policies and expectations. This role also involves partnering with teachers to provide professional development on developmentally appropriate strategies for relationship building and effective student redirection, fostering a positive and respectful school culture. The Dean works in close collaboration with administrators, counselors, teachers, and families to uphold community standards, support student behavior, and guide personal development. Responsibilities & Duties
  • Leads efforts to promote positive student behavior.
  • Enforces the school's Code of Conduct and policies as outlined in the Student and Family Handbook.
  • Manages daily student discipline and redirection with a restorative and developmentally appropriate approach.
  • Participates as a member of the Student Support Team. • Oversees behavioral tracking systems.
  • Works with the Mental Health Counselor to coordinate programming related to social and life skill instruction.
  • Conducts student and family meetings related to behavioral concerns.
  • Designs and delivers professional development for faculty on relationship building, classroom management, and student redirection strategies.
  • Participates in safety planning, and crisis response as part of the school's leadership team. • Serves as a visible and consistent presence throughout the school day, including during arrival, transitions, lunch, and dismissal.
  • Attends school functions, including some in the evenings and on weekends, and attends an annual overnight trip with students.

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in education, counseling, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience working with adolescents in a school setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership in student life, discipline, counseling, or school administration.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of adolescent development and positive behavioral supports.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion, compassion, and fairness.
Preferred Qualities:
  • Bilingual
  • Experience with restorative practices or trauma-informed education
  • Comfort using student information systems and behavior tracking platforms
