The Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU) is a regional educational service agency located in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Established in 1971 under an act of the Pennsylvania General Assembly, it is one of twenty-nine intermediate units in the state. DCIU provides leadership to programs and services that are designed to be both high-quality and cost-effective. Its mission focuses on innovation and responsiveness to the educational needs of students, educators, and communities throughout the county. DCIU plays a critical role in supporting public education through collaboration, capacity building, and the delivery of specialized services. Governance of DCIU is provided by a Board of Directors composed of one school board member from each of the fifteen public school districts in Delaware County, elected by their peers across the region. DCIU serves fifteen public school districts, three charter schools, and more than fifty private and parochial schools. DCIU supports over sixty-nine thousand students and approximately six thousand educators. Its programs extend across all age groups and educational levels, from early childhood through adult education. Services include special education, career and technical education, adult education, professional development, early childhood programs, and supports for English learners. DCIU also manages lending libraries for assistive technology and instructional tools and coordinates countywide events. In addition to serving schools, DCIU provides services to governmental agencies, municipalities, and other community and business stakeholders. The organization offers a wide range of entrepreneurial ventures, including information technology solutions, business services, human resources support, and other customized services designed to meet the evolving needs of its partners. The Executive Director of the Delaware County Intermediate Unit serves as the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for implementing DCIU's mission, vision, and strategic goals. This individual will champion the value of Intermediate Units within Pennsylvania's public education system while driving the growth of high-quality programs and services that respond to the evolving needs of school districts, educators, students, and communities. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to lead transformative initiatives, foster relationships with diverse stakeholders, and ensure the financial sustainability of the organization through expanded service offerings and new revenue-generating opportunities. Key Responsibilities SummaryThe Executive Director will lead all aspects of the Intermediate Unit's operations, including oversight of educational programming, personnel, facilities, and finances. Responsibilities include serving as Chief Executive to the Board of Directors; leading instructional planning and data-informed decision-making; managing human resources and talent development; ensuring fiscal responsibility; supporting and evaluating key programs such as special education and student services; advancing public engagement and media relations; and driving strategic initiatives that promote continuous improvement, equity, and innovation. The Executive Director will also represent DCIU at the local, state, and national levels, influence educational policy, and champion inclusion and belonging across the organization.Certification RequiredPennsylvania Executive Director Letter of Eligibility or Pennsylvania Superintendent Letter of Eligibility. Experience RequiredA minimum of six to eight years of experience serving as an Intermediate Unit executive director, assistant executive director, or superintendent of schools is required.
