Overview
Job Title: Database Administrator Location: Long Island City, NY 11101. Local candidates only. On-site interview required. Duration: 6 months, extension possible based on needs and performance.
Description
Client is in search of an experienced DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) with solid experience supporting DB2 v10 (or higher) on an IBM z/OS platform. Primary responsibilities include working with application development teams to install and migrate releases, support execution of data fixes, define new and execute databases recovery functions, and define and execute standard database tuning procedures (e.g., runstats, reorgs).
Responsibilities
- The target systems are PMS and PPMS, the Citys payroll and pension payroll applications.
- Ensure that all installation, configuration, and tuning of DB2 databases are completed efficiently.
- Author and validate procedures for all database processes.
- Identify potential issues and deliver modifications/updates for DB2 programs.
- Communicate with and deliver to Tech Support all elements to be migrated with specific instructions to be performed during the production migration.
- Assist the Systems areas with tool upgrades and participate in Disaster Recovery drills.
Required Skills
- Experience with IBMz/OS DB2 databases (DB2 for z/OS) v10 or higher; IBM z/OS environment experience preferred.
- Ability to perform all database admin duties (backup/recovery, reorgs, DB troubleshooting).
- Experience with CICS transaction server.
- Ability to author REXX scripts.
- Ability to troubleshoot assembler code.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues with DB2 embedded within COBOL programs.
- Ability to design solutions using Oracle Transparent Gateway.
- Experience designing, developing and implementing BMC BPPM Monitoring software solutions.
- Experience installing and troubleshooting IBM Tivoli LDAP server product running on AIX.
- Candidate must have demonstrated experience working with application teams to build and maintain data propagation solutions using IBM InfoSphere Replication Server; ability to install and manage DB2 on AIX platforms.
- Deep experience supporting large-scale, enterprise-wide financial and payroll applications built on a framework of off-the-shelf 3rd party solutions.
Education
Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science or in a Technical/Business Discipline is required.
