Job Summary
The DVE will lead the creation of data-driven visualizations and interactive stories that illuminate the latest developments in chemistry. They will create processes and lead training sessions to increase internal knowledge of data visualization in journalism.
The ideal candidate is a full-stack visual journalist with strong data analysis skills and front-end development experience. They should be adept at translating complex data into accessible visuals and eager to experiment with new formats and tools.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with editorial and creative teams to develop data-driven stories and interactives on chemistry research, trends, and breakthroughs.
- Create and edit graphics, charts, maps, infographics, and interactive data tools.
- Work with science writers, editors, and experts to ensure accuracy and clarity.
- Refine existing visualizations to improve accuracy and accessibility.
- Source, clean, and analyze datasets from journals, databases, and repositories.
- Train staff in data visualization development and best practices.
- Contribute to establishing a consistent visual style and storytelling approach.
- Ensure visualizations meet accessibility standards.
- Document workflows and templates for future projects.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Git.
- Strong data analysis skills with Python, R, SQL, or similar.
- Experience with data visualization libraries like D3.js, Datawrapper, Flourish, QGIS.
- Experience with CMS or publishing systems (Adobe AEM experience is a plus).
- Ability to translate scientific concepts into visuals.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards for data visualization.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and editorial judgment.
