Job Location : Milton,FL, USA
Description
The National Security Sector at Leidos is seeking a Data Scientist to join our team on-site at Eglin AFB, FL, in support of the Joint Staff J6 Joint Assessment Division (JAD). In this role, you will contribute to system-of-systems interoperability assessments and advance Combined Joint All Domain Command and Control (CJADC2) data-centricity initiatives. Your work will help deliver actionable insights to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, directly enhancing Joint Force capabilities. You'll collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, engineers, and analysts, applying modern technologies to address complex, real-world challenges.
Responsibilities:
Description. Develop data modeling processes to support operational analysis. Data Scientists collaborate with analysts and data engineers to develop data models, design storage architectures, integrate disparate sources, curate data, and apply data science techniques to prepare datasets for addressing mission-critical measures, drawing conclusions, and delivering recommendations that enhance Joint Force capabilities.
Design, develop, and implement data processing pipelines to ingest, clean, and transform data from diverse sources, including sensors, Command and Control (C2) systems, weapon systems, GPS trackers, and observer logs.
Extract key events and parameters from raw data to reconstruct operational sequences describing system performance during critical scenarios (e.g., threat detection, engagement, and mitigation).
Develop and implement algorithms for event recognition, anomaly detection, and data correction to address data gaps, errors, and inconsistencies.
Create robust methods for correlating information across disparate systems with different data representations and ontologies.
Develop and maintain data quality and governance processes to ensure data integrity and reliability.
Collaborate with data engineers to build scalable and robust data infrastructures on cloud platforms.
Work closely with subject matter experts to understand mission requirements and translate them into data-driven solutions.
Participate in code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing within the team.
Contribute to research and development efforts to explore new data science techniques and technologies relevant to CJADC2.
Example Project Areas:
Threat Engagement Analysis: Analyze data from radar systems, weapon systems, and C2 systems to reconstruct threat engagement sequences, identify performance bottlenecks, and assess the effectiveness of mitigation strategies.
System Interoperability Assessment: Analyze communication logs and data exchanges between different military systems to identify interoperability issues, communication delays, and data translation errors.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience. Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field with 3 years of relevant experience; a Master's Degree can substitute for two years of experience
Proficiency in at least one data scripting language (Python or R) and experience with data science libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, ggplot2, dplyr).
Experience working with relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and related data technologies.
Secret Clearance and ability to obtain and maintain TS Clearance.
Current baseline certification meeting IAM-II (CompTIA Security+) or obtain within 6 months of hire.
Capability to lift 40 lbs. to support occasional movement of equipment.
Professional writing and oral presentation skills, MS Office proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications:
Current TS Clearance.
Strong capacity for logical reasoning, data interpretation, and problem solving.
Familiarity with virtual computing environments (Azure preferred) and modern tech stacks.
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, JMP).
Exposure to other software development languages (e.g., C#, JavaScript, TypeScript).
Demonstrates advanced research methodology to deconstruct complex technical systems.
At Leidos, we don't want someone who fits the mold —we want someone who melts it down and builds something better. This is a role for the restless, the over-caffeinated, the ones who ask, “what's next?” before the dust settles on “what's now.”
If you're already scheming step 20 while everyone else is still debating step 2… good. You'll fit right in.
