We're looking for a data engineer to join the Ookla Application Engineering team, focusing on processing the world's best internet performance data. You will develop tools, libraries, and operations to support data scientists and analysts in discovering new applications of our data. Applicants should have a strong, data-focused programming background and a passion for accuracy and performance, working with big data technologies.

Expectations for Success
  • Develop high-volume data processing jobs across platforms like Redshift, Athena, Iceberg, Spark, and Airflow
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists to turn theories into viable products
  • Identify system bottlenecks and recommend efficiency improvements
  • Support data scientists, analysts, and product managers
Requirements

We value your experience and skills; if your background aligns with the following, we encourage your application:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in at least one OOP language (Python, Scala, Java)
  • 3+ years of experience with Python
  • Experience with high-volume distributed data processing in Spark
  • Strong SQL, database, data modeling, and data warehouse management skills
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Willingness to learn new technologies in a dynamic environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-driven with good time management
  • Experience with AWS cloud services and event-driven architectures is a plus

As required by law, the salary range for this position is $145,000 to $160,000 per year, depending on experience and location.
