This role requires deep technical expertise in HVAC, cooling systems, and facility operations to ensure the seamless operation of high-performance data centers. The SME will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop operational strategies, troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, and drive improvements in system reliability and efficiency.Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert for all mechanical systems within the data center, including HVAC, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units, and chillers.
- Provide technical leadership in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical system issues, optimizing performance, and mitigating risks.
- Develop and implement operational procedures, maintenance strategies, and reliability programs for mechanical infrastructure.
- Collaborate with design, construction, and operations teams to enhance system efficiency and scalability.
- Analyze mechanical system data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
- Work closely with vendors and contractors to evaluate new technologies and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Conduct root cause analysis for cooling-related incidents and develop corrective action plans.
- Provide training and mentorship to operations personnel on mechanical system best practices.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards.

- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address schedule conflicts, delays, and constraints. Proactive in proposing solutions and making adjustments to maintain project schedule adherence.
- Attention to Detail: Thoroughness in maintaining accurate and up-to-date project schedules. Attention to detail in reviewing schedules, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring schedule integrity.

Physical RequirementsAble to remain seated for an extended period and lift and carry up to 15 lbs. (office manuals, case notebooks, case files, case materials, standard boxes, report binders, etc.) as needed.Working conditions based on position/location:Remote - The Company agrees that the Employee may work from home provided the employee is in good standing, has a continuously secured internet connection and necessary equipment, and is accessible by MS teams, phone, fax, and email during business hours. The work sites are loud. - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in data center mechanical engineering, facility operations, or mission-critical environments.
- Extensive knowledge of cooling systems, redundancy design, airflow management, and thermal load analysis.
- Hands-on experience with chilled water systems, DX cooling, and other mission-critical cooling technologies.
- Strong understanding of industry standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and Uptime Institute Tier classifications.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical system failures in real-time operational settings.
- Experience with building management systems (BMS), SCADA, and energy management platforms.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Certifications such as PE (Professional Engineer), PMP, or relevant data center qualifications are a plus.
