Data Center Facility Engineer I

As a member of the Data Center Facilities Engineering team, you will be responsible for scaling our facilities' infrastructure and implementing advanced power and cooling technologies within our Crown Castle Data Centers. You will be responsible for ensuring that Crown Castle's data center facilities operate at optimal performance, 24/7. You will monitor and add capacity as needed in our locations to proactively manage mission-critical infrastructure utilization and recommended upgrades. This includes planning, engineering, and deployment of HVAC systems, generators, UPS systems, power distribution networks, DC power plants, fire suppression, and general building construction. You will connect all new infrastructure to Crown Castles BMS/EMS systems for remote connectivity and management. The Data Center Facility Engineer must be able to work effectively in cooperative efforts while also being self-driven and taking initiative on tasks that require independent work.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, schedule, and coordinate necessary facility upgrades, capacity requirements and create budgetary requirements
  • Manage capital projects to meet deadlines and adhere to the allocated budget
  • Schedule and coordinate preventative and demand maintenance activities
  • Data Center design and implementation to include mission-critical HVAC, power, fire, and security systems and vendor management
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Data Center Critical Infrastructure
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and contractors to coordinate building projects and upgrades
  • Monitor energy consumption and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements
  • Maintain accurate documentation of systems, including schematics, manuals, and maintenance logs
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and local building codes
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of building systems to ensure optimal functionality
  • Travel throughout Crown Castle footprint and an On-Call rotation

Education/Certifications:

  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years' experience in Data Center Critical Infrastructure

Experience/Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience in troubleshooting critical building systems and infrastructure (Generators, UPS systems, HVAC systems, AC electrical systems, and DC rectifier battery plants)
  • Knowledge of BMS (Building Management Systems) and alarming platforms
  • Experience with reading and creating standard drawing types floor plans, electrical one-line diagrams, face equipment drawings
  • Familiar with budget creation and solution costing
  • Familiarity with data center industry best practices
  • A valid driver's license is a bona fide job requirement to drive and operate a Crown Castle vehicle in this position. Subject to local and state eligibility, a pre-employment background check with MVR will be conducted to evaluate a candidate's safety record and eligibility to drive for a job

Reports to: Sr. Manager, Data Center Facilities Engineering

Working Conditions:

This role falls into our hybrid work model working in the office or data center on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. On Mondays and Fridays, teammates on the hybrid schedule will have the option to work from the office, home or a data center. There is an expectation of collaboration with teammates, vendor meetings, site walks, site remediation and stakeholders, and for emergency matters that could require travel.

Compensation:

The pay range offered for this position is $77,700 - $106,900 annually. A candidate's offer is determined by various factors including but not limited to, depth of experience, role-related knowledge and skills, relevant education or training, internal alignment, and work location. Depending on the position offered, the compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of a discretionary annual cash bonus or commissions, and equity incentives. Employees (and their families) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to enroll in our company's 401k plan. Employees will also receive a minimum of 18 days of paid time off each year and 12 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
