Salary Range:$18.00 To $20.00 Hourly

New York Edge is New York's leading provider of after-school and summer camp programs. SUMMARY

Dance Specialists organize, lead, and promote interest in activities such as Traditional Jazz, African dance, Folk dance, Hip-hop & funk dance, Afro dance, Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary dance, Flamenco, Modern dance, Tap dance, Latin dance, ballroom dance, liturgical dance, improvisational dance, step, freestyle, break/house dance. Specialists should teach basic dance principles and then go beyond that through the act of demonstration by teacher, student's follow and then challenge student's to use their own creative thinking within the art. Exploring creativity is part of dance, drama, and music.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
  • Organize, lead, and promote interest in daily dance activities such as warm-up, movement across the floor, center activity and combinations as well as activities that lead to full performance pieces, trips to see shows, and workshops outside the site to enhance and further learning.
  • Organize performance groups, direct their rehearsals, put on performances at the site, and prepare to audition for the Annual New York Edge along with the student's interest.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities, and demonstrate use of materials and equipment.
  • Greet new arrivals to activities, introducing them to other students, explaining rules, and encouraging participation.
  • Evaluate activities to determine if they are producing desired results.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Coordinate competitions between other New York Edge programs or outside of New York Edge programs.
  • Progressive development of student skills leading to a final project.

INTERACTS WITH:

  • After School Program Director, Tutor Counselors, Students.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledgeable and skilled in one or more styles of dance and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth in dance.
  • Prior performance experience choreographing dance works and putting a performance together.
  • Knowledge in dance terminology, history, and resources to develop a well-rounded and cohesive study in dance throughout the school year.
  • Responsible, reliable, and punctual.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be remote access prepared which includes: web/internet/broadband accessibility and reliable cell phone devices equipped for texting and talking.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain throughout the assignment; the technology (hardware, software, internet access, and a working cell phone) required to perform the duties of the position including communications with supervisor and other staff members.
  • Physical requirements including ability to wear all PPE required, climb stairs, lift children, perform CPR, communicate by voice, monitor and evaluate events visually and aurally.
  • As an essential worker, it is expected at this time that you have schedule flexibility based on State, Local, and Federal pandemic management conditions and requirements (e.g. school closures, training, emergency orders).
  • Certifications and credentials in respective skill-based activity highly preferred.
  • Candidates who are qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity preferred.
  • Must pass pre-employment background investigation including but not limited to fingerprinting, employment history, and criminal background check. Please notify New York Edge of any date restrictions you may have during the hiring process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum of two years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.
  • Must have passion for New York Edge mission and demonstrated interest in the field of education and youth development.
  • Able to work late afternoons and/or evenings. After-school hours can span from 2pm-4pm, with most programs running from 3pm-6pm.

LOCATION: BronxTIME: After School Hours. 2:30PM - 6:00PM

At the time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
