Job Description :
The Customer Service Clerk I position will be tasked with pulling and preparing records for requests while maintaining compliance with strict time restrictions in accordance with each request. Other Customer Service Clerk I responsibilities: •Establishes and maintains files, records and accounts for area of responsibility •Maintains knowledge base of current laws and policies •Attends in-service training and technical/professional classes, seminars or conferences to improve skills •Interacts with other departments, customers, and the public by telephone, in-person or fax/email •provides information, directs individuals to appropriate personnel •takes and relays messages •Process incoming and outgoing mail and packages •Conducts administrative functions such as recording statistical information, compiling reports, performing specialized projects, coordinating with other agencies or the public and maintaining logs and forms •Fingerprinting, processing applications and permits, processing local background checks Performs other duties as assigned The City of Chesapeake offers an exceptional range of benefits. Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : May require certifications depending on the department. Depending on departmental operational requirements, may require valid driver's license and driving record in compliance with Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards . SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Preferred Qualifications In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standards, a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience, preferably in a law enforcement setting or busy office setting is preferred. Prior experience with VCIN / NCIC systems.
