Part-Time Customer Service Assistant
The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and customer-focused individual to join our Children's Department. This role provides front-line service to families, caregivers, and children, assisting with library materials, programs, and resources. Essential Duties
- Participates in routine public service by circulating materials to customers, which includes checking materials out and placing holds.
- Answers reference and reader's advisory questions in person and by telephone.
- May assist librarians and library associates with the preparation of programs.
- Develops displays, bulletin boards, and other passive programs.
- Assists users individually and in groups in the use of library materials and equipment.
- Assists in department operations opening and closing the desk, filling displays, setting up book trucks, shelving materials, reading shelves, etc.
- Shares information about library services and programs to individuals.
- May assist with other outreach activities as assigned.
- Assists users with public computers and online catalog terminals. Troubleshoots minor hardware/software issues; opens help desk tickets.
- Assists with signups for story time and other programs. Processes reading logs and incentives for reading programs.
- Applies library policies in dealing with a variety of public service situations.
- Develops and maintains a working knowledge of childhood brain development and developmentally appropriate practice.
Qualifications/Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred. Previous customer service experience, especially working with children or families, is a plus. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Comfortable working with technology, including library catalog systems and digital resources. Ability to work in a fast-paced, energetic environment. A passion for literacy, education, and public service. Valid driver's license.
Position will be part-time (24 hours/week). The work schedule will include at least two evening shifts and alternating Friday/Saturday shifts per week.
