Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial/Building Engineer Date Posted: 1/6/2025 Location: IJ Holton Intermediate School - Grade 5/6 District: Austin Public School District #492 Austin Public School District is seeking to hire a Custodial Engineer at IJ Holton Intermediate School. CUSTODIAL ENGINEER - FULL TIME POSITION Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 5:30am-2:00pm Qualifications: 1. Must be licensed by the State of Minnesota for proper boiler operation (1st class). 2.Good health to enable performance of all responsibilities. 3. Ability to read basic operating instructions and write reports as necessary. 4. Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the tasks assigned. 5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as maybe found appropriate and acceptable. Performance Responsibilities: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, and develop. The Custodian Engineer performs general cleaning duties, both inside and outside the school buildings, to ensure a pleasant environment. The Custodian Engineer performs other tasks as may be assigned. Duties:
  • Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and outdoor areas neat and clean at all times.
  • Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity, clean and maintain as required, also cleaning univents.
  • Shovels, plows, and/or sand walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps, as appropriate. Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
  • Scrubs, and disinfects toilet floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
  • Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently if necessary.
  • Performs such yard keeping chores as to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
  • Cleans all whiteboards as required.
  • Makes such minor building repairs as is capable of, completes preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Reports major repairs needed promptly to the Principal.
  • Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his attendance required by the Principal. Assumes responsibility for the opening of the building each school day, turning on all the necessary lighting.
  • Keeps and inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitions such needed replacements from the Principal or Buildings & Grounds
  • Director far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such times as will not hinder the running of the building.
  • Moves furniture and equipment within the building as required for various activities and as directed by the Principal or Buildings & Grounds Director. Assumes responsibility for general security and fire safety of the building
